Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Running at 4.8GHz at all times is completely pointless and a huge waste of power, there's no downside to allowing the CPU to idle at 1.6GHz and more importantly he's disabled thermal throttling which isn't too smart since that's how the CPU protects itself from overheating.

I'm not running 24/7 at these settings, just testing what the CPU is capable of. For 24/7 everything is enabled again lol

Mine arrived earlier today, sat at my neighbours house (who kindly signed for it for me).. Not going to get a chance to play with it tonight as going out for a meal.. Friday it is then!

Cant wait!

Little speed bump update ran LinX 20 times then a quick Super Pi, getting close to 7.5 secs

What is the difference between a standard Extreme4 board and the Gen3?

As far as I can tell the only difference is future-proofing for new graphics cards and intel chips that may not be with us until Q1 2012 at the earliest and even then they will be highly priced? Am I wrong? Are there any other reasons to opt for the Gen3 and pay the extra £16 or so.

Please tell me what you gain from having the overclock running 100% of the time other than wasted power? The clock switching is so fast it doesn't affect performance one bit.

Leaving the overclock running compared to using clock switching doesnt make any impact of power consumption if the CPU voltage is left overvolted. It still consumes the same amount of power in idle mode whether it is running at 1600 mhz or 5000 mhz if the voltage is the same in both cases.

Best motherboard I have bought so far by a long way. Running at 4.6Ghz with 16 GB of RAM no trouble at all.

CPU Ratio 46
Turbo and CPU current limits set at 255,255,300
I am using offset voltage setting at +0.115v (Max Voltage in IBT goes to 1.37xx volts and at Idle its arround 1.09xx volts)
Load line calibration at level 5
VTT set at 0.986v
VCCSA set at 0.925v
CPU PLL set at 1.709v

Spread Spectrum disabled

Speedstep, Interval PLL Overvoltage, and Power saving all turned on.

Only thing stopping me going any higher is the Temperature . Running IBT the CPU gets to 75C at these settings.

Just ordered a Asrock Extreme4 Gen3 Mother board,
an waiting for it to arrive but I have one question?

How many 3/4Pin fan connectors are there?
