Zzoomm Fibre Discussion Thread.

Well its almost a week since I sent my email to Zzoomm, and I have yet to receive a reply from anybody.
I have heard a few stories here and there that there customer sales is quite dire. So I might send it to support this time as I'm getting nothing from sales.

Zzoomm say they estimate to have FTTP rolled out to my street in Q4 2023, so it's been delayed.

I think they are working out the route to get fibre to my street, but from what I can tell, they appear to be using the existing fibre cable that goes to the existing FTTC cabinet at the bottom of my street. Unless they are just using the same ducts, with newly laid cable?

I guess it's possible it could be delayed again until 2024...
At least they have told you this. Cables went down along my road over a year ago and I've had nothing Not even an official letter from Zzoomm about signing up to broadband.

had this a lot from the pre-install people i.e. sales, but their tech people are superb.. well in my experience anyway.. know what they're talking about.. don't seem to read from scripts.. and if you're knowledgeable they actively engage and treat you like you know something about what they're talking about.. it was refreshing..

Well, I've gotten a bit further today :D A nice person called Sarah from tech support messaged me back and said that she had sent over my request details to the build dept to see how long its going to take, or for at least an ETA on the building where I live.

Which is a damn site more then I had contacting sales. Hopefully I don't have to wait too long for a reply.

Well, I have finally been given my answer and its bad news. I received a email from Harriet Squire Office Manager at Zzoomm It seems that Zzoomm deem the building to be too expensive to install to due to a company called Eris media and the fees they charge Zzoom. So because of the price of installation, it won't be installed here.

Code:
Good Afternoon,

I have spoken with our teams in regards to you property
and im afraid at currently we wont be able to supply you with Zzoomm.
This is due to Eris Media and their fees for us to be able to service these flats.

I do apologies this has been ongoing for so long,
our teams have worked towards a solution for this
but I'm afraid an agreement this hasn't been possible.

Kind Regards

So it's taken them a year for them to tell me that I won't be getting Zzoomm anyway lol.
Ah well, I can't get Virgin, so the only other alternative would be Sky, my BB speed would be more or less the same, but the price is 26 quid a month compared to BT's 85 per month. So no brainer really.

thanks for all your help :D

I take it Eris Media are the owners of the building?

If so it's a bit wierd they would not want to enable something that makes their building more attractive to potential tenants.. ??

Has you spoken to anyone at Eris Media?.. and asked for an explaination?

R.

Well, I look Eris media up on da google, and it seems they are installation middle men. Zzoom must pay them to install the service at a property and in this case Eris media have given zzoomm a price for my building and zzoomm have turned it down. That's my limited understanding anyway.

TBH, there are 6 flats in this building and 2 of them are empty at the moment. Probably just not enough interest in the service to make worth while for zzoomm to spend thousands getting the building live.

I will fire an email across to Eris and ask for an explanation, and hopefully they will explain.

Me and the wife are looking at getting Sky for the time been, and think about changing again after 18 months.

Looks like Zzoomm have enabled IPv6 this morning or very recently. The geolocation of the address seems to be mucking up my Microsoft Rewards though, it doesn't think I'm in the UK anymore. :O

Have you tried registering interest with Hyperoptic?

Well, I'm gonna whinge a bit about the waiting for a connection with Zzoomm, in my street - I'm not one to particularly care whether it's delivered by telegraph pole or underground cables...

Most of my town (I think 80% ish) can apparently get a FTTP connection with either Zzoomm or Openreach's network now.

There seems to be some issues with clearing blockages, they said it would be all done by the end of 2023 (but they were still confirming how many blockages needed to be cleared) , but now it's looking like probably March 2024, but that's just a guess because they've not replied to the last email I sent. According to Better Internet Dashboard, there's no work scheduled in my area in the coming weeks.

The network itself has been up and running in my area for a few months now. I think they need to work closely with Openreach, it wouldn't surprise me if they are holding things up a bit. I wonder if there's much incentive for Openreach to complete civil engineering work promptly?

It's all a bit of a mystery, really.

Little update on the situation in my street - Had a message back from Zzoomm and they've had a meeting today!

In summary, it looks like I could be out of luck, we could be waiting many months as they haven't set a date for when the blockage clearing will be completed by. The build in some areas of my town has been put on hold apparently. It looks like 'at some point in 2024' is the eta. Might as well just forget about it for now

It's going about as well as Boris Johnson's Project Gigabit, which is still in the procurement phase for most of the country

I've found out that the network build for most of the properties in my street has been delayed, due to a lack of a wayleave agreement (wayleave agreements need to be approved by your local council).

Hopefully, once this has been sorted out, Zzoomm will be able to proceed as planned.

Does anyone have any experience with waiting for a wayleave agreement to be approved?

What's a typical waiting time for a wayleave agreement for work to install FTTP connections?

Hi folks thinking of going for zzoomm, it's £30 for a gig at the min for he next year which is mental cheap. How are you guys finding them? Fairly reliable? What are the benefits in having a static ip?

No real problems here. It’s gone offline about five times since I had it last April? for 10-30 minutes. No issues with speed or anything like that although it varies from site to site, that’s more likely the host restricting speeds. Steam and PSN are always in the 70-80 Mbyte/sec range. Having 1Gbps upload is a godsend now for uploading videos to the cloud.

It seems like the build for my street is still on hold, there's still a few streets in my town that Zzoomm has yet to cover.

According to them, it's not because of a lack of a wayleave agreement. I recently learnt that they had to lay off a lot of staff (300 workers) in May 2023, so maybe the delay relates to that.

The good news, is that my area is now scheduled to get FTTP with Openreach within 12 months. Probably best not to be too optimistic though, at least until the status changes to actively building in my area.

Zoinks! Breaking the speed record with Zzoomm on Steam tonight. Never in my life have I seen this high a transfer speed before.
