'Generic' Shooter

Generic is something that's knocked together without a Soul. It's simple a to b and level done, repetition of game play and no sections of real class.

A perfect example is Blacksite.

A bit like Halo 3 then?? :p

Nah, Halo is possibly more generic than Halo 3. The problem is so many shooters just don't set themselves apart from the next.

IMO generic is a game that is just like all the others, you could swap the story and be in another game and not really notice.

You have to admit, it raised a good chuckle when it linked to the developers of Resistance and you called Halo generic :p
It's just so wrong and silly on so many levels.

Halo is generic, but the only reason i mentioned halo was because someone brought it up.
Space marine shooters have been done to death tbh.
But Resistance IMO is a great game, and they also make the best game seres ever, Ratchet.

Halo came out seven years ago. We're just going in circles again.

Do you know what archetypical means? I think you don't. If you do, please start giving me examples of games in 2001 and before that was even remotely like Halo.

Let's go beyond 'space marine shooter' in fact. What games in 2001 had the same seamless indoor/outdoor, vehicular combat as Halo? Or the health system? Or squads? Or two guns inventory? I could go on and on.

If people really want to debate against the merits of Halo, they really have got to try harder than 'lol space marines'.

Have you played Halo? It is a perfect example of a corridor shooter. The first hour of Halo wasn't bad, then it went to bloody corridor after corridor after corridor.

And we wont even start on halo 2.

More space marinesque shooters in Duke Nukem, Unreal, Alien Trilogy.

But tbh, there is no arguing with a Halo fanboy, so i wont even bother.

So the space marine element was done to death because of games that were released five and seven years prior to Halo? Games that were simply corridor shooters at best (please don't hurt me o Gods of Id)

Halo 3 turns into a corridor shooter for the a good chunk. That bit with the flood was probably the most boring hour I've ever spent in a game.

lol the health system. Hardly anything revolutionary or spectactular is it. It's just a small and simple modification on the typical health bar.

What do you mean by 'two guns inventory'? You mean the ability to dual wield the same type/different weapons? That was done way before Halo. One example is Goldeneye IIRC.

The vehicular combat was something different, but aside from that the gameplay is incredibly basic with not much depth to it.

Actually if that is what he means with 2 gun inventory, it wasn't available until Halo 2.
