OK, I opted for the 15.4@ WSXGA model, with the 2.4Ghz processor, 4Gb of DDR3, the 9800M GTS and the blu-ray drive. It was a spur of the moment purchase (damn you overclockers and your 10% off voucher!)

Please tell me I made the right decision. Any word on the build quality? Any non-generic pictures?
 
lol that 10% voucher swayed me too :)

There is not much info on this laptop as its so new! But from what I have heard so far build quality is great. Temps on the cpu and gfx are really good but a few users are reporting really hot HD temps due to minimal air movement over/around the HD. I am sure this can be easily remedied though and if that is all there is to complain about I will be happy.

What are these vouchers the last few posters have talked about?

Im in the market for a new laptop myself but im not sure whether i should wait and see how the ocuk range turn out(was after the ultima mobile) or just get a decent specced laptop from the dell outlet(xps m1710 with 7950gtx, 2+ghz 4mb cache c2d and 4gb ram) for a good price. The graphics card is out of date but i dont know if i can justify spending £300 to get a more future proof card that i may not even need

Just as well theres really no rush for me to get one soon
 
@ Reeve. Sorry the voucher was for OCUK customers who hadnt bought for a while as an incentive to start buying again :)
If you are in no hurry then I would suggest waiting to see how the ultima's pan out. Me personally, I have owned loads of gaming laptops and this Ultima seems like tooo good a deal to pass up. The m1710 is quite outdated, I wouldnt recommend it, hold out for the dell refresh if you decide the Ultima's are not for you.

Also I would highly recommend getting the best gfx you can afford if you think you may game on it as it is a component you will unlikely be able to upgrade. CPU/RAM/HD can be upgraded later
 
Any news on WXGA+ screens and how much extra they'll cost? 1440x900 is a decider for me. Specifically interested in the Primo Mobile.

Aye, a bit of student discount would be quite an incentive. (hint, hint) Difficult to prove short of faxing a UCAS form though.

@ ninja2000 - Any details around about when the Dell refresh is happening? It's long overdue as it is.
 
We'll be looking at WXGA+ screens once we've got things off the ground. We've got them coming to visit on Friday so if there's any different requirements/questions then bang them in here and I'll ask.
 
@ Slackworth - Please can we have an update? I really could do with getting mine before the 5th as I am going away the following week.

@ WolfR1der - Details are very limited at the moment. But apparantly there is xps studio 13 & 16 due in November. Not much is known specs wise except hybrid SLI

Hmm funny i didnt get one then, i haven't ordered anything from ocuk in years:p . I still use a 2500+ barton and a 9800pro, which i bought some of the components from here for years back

Joking? (I can't tell). As you can get quad cores in laptops *if your wallet is big enough* :D

It's probably worth pointing out you can't get a 9800 GTX in a laptop, but a 9800M GTX, they are stripped down versions of the desktop chips.

Great! I guess that means they are still not in yet :(

I am going to call sales this afternoon if we dont get an update from Slackworth/RTB

This is starting to bug me too, and coupled with the fact that OcUK seem to be avoiding the issue at the moment (not posting in this thread) I fear the worst.. :(
 
Right just phoned the sales team. They were due in yesterday but havent arrived, he said they would be in by the end of the week. I am guessing they have been held up in customs or something.

I also asked how long they take to turn them around which is likely to be 12-24hours to customise them and then ship.
