Wish I could help you out mate but all I can suggest is updated / different driver revisions and perhaps a reinstall of the game, or at worst the O/S as a last resort . When you do get it working, please let us know how it runs and with what settings, as our specs are very similar :)

Will do. Slowly making progress, seems the prob may be down to Xonar sound cards, been pratting about for about an hour. Ive come from an instant ctd upon clicking 'new game' to seeing an actual loading screen then it hangs, heading in the right direction at least :)
 
Never played the first two fallout games but I just finished a quest and a guy has offered to teach me the ways of being a vampire. I presume this will turn me into one (like in oblivion). But have no idea of the benefits / drawbacks.

Strange, my friend has exactly the same issue but with FarCry 2. Never considered sound as a possible cause… Have you tried adjusting the hardware acceleration settings for audio within XP?

Drawbacks... poor dental hygiene? Radiated blood.
 
Slightly gutted mine hasn't arrived after being sent yesterday morning around 7am. :( Normally receive things a) early and b) next day even though it states 2-3days. :p

Anyway no major loss as I generally can't be bothered Mon-Thurs after work. Friday is a whole different ball game though, so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow! :D

Did you order from the "ladder" online game store place by any chance? Cos that where I ordered mine from and it never arrived today.
 
I ordered from the dog and grammar phone music place, my CE got posted on Tuesday morning yet it hasn't managed to make it here today? What's going on there? I'm not complaining, just questioning the fact considering others from the Jersey place have managed to turn up.
 
Managed to finally get it working :)

If you get the crash problem on hitting new game and have a Xonar DX sound card, this solution worked for me and a few others.
Install the latest Xonar beta drivers and this K-Lite codec pack (full). Once thats in, turn off the DS3D GX feature on your card, its in the audio center, now it should work....hopefully :)

Will let you know how well it runs on this system later on tonight
