US ELECTION RESULTS THREAD...


WASHINGTON—African-American man Barack Obama, 47, was given the least-desirable job in the entire country Tuesday when he was elected president of the United States of America.

In his new high-stress, low-reward position, Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation's broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis.

As part of his duties, the black man will have to spend four to eight years cleaning up the messes other people left behind.

The job comes with such intense scrutiny and so certain a guarantee of failure that only one other person even bothered applying for it. Said scholar and activist Mark L. Denton, "It just goes to show you that, in this country, a black man still can't catch a break."

I'm used to Americans being really bad at stereo typing other countries but some of the **** people are saying on here is hilarious!!
 
Now for us 'britz' to vote for the Lib dems, i mean seriously, david cameron is a school boy toff and gordon brown is past is already, he looks like he might have a breakdown. Both of them are typical in how they conduct themselves in parliament - its like a childish flame war to see who can get one up on the other.
Ming Campbell had some great ideas when he was Lib Dem leader but really he was too old to be put on the world stage.

I think I will vote Lib Dem this time around, I think they are the only party that holds much credibility at this point in time.
 
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I have a question: California has voted Democrat for years - it's a safe democrat state, so why do they have a republican Governor?

Its a different votes.

The voter votes for different things in the voting booth, from who they want for President, Governor, Senator, Congressman, to what local law they want to reject or pass, from state abortion laws to traffic speed laws.

Hence they have HUGE queues and hence Obama took about 20 mins in the voting booth, and thats why his voting ballet was about a size of a sheet of A3 paper.

In the UK they vote who they want their MP will be and that's pretty much it.

Yeah it's an interesting one.

For starters, Arnie isn't a hardcore Republican, his renewable energy, hydrogen fuel and emissions policies for starters have brought him into conflict with his party. Also the federal/state system is very different, in terms of taxation and general policy - people may not object to policies at a federal level but on a state level may prefer the Republican model.

The model of government is something which is often forgotten about the US, for all its faults it is very democratic with the Federal/State/County/Incorporated City system, with elected officials and public involvement at every level.

As have most US Presidents had a threat against them in some way.

4 have been assainated and less than 20 have had direct attempts at their life.

I can't see this distracting Barack Obama from getting on with the job and I'm sure the Federal security services will do their job.
