F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

In particular, I feel that if Ferrari get battered by BrawnGP, then we shall see an appeal which will probably be successful, if only to ensure that Ferrari have a good chance at winning the titles.

But it won't just be Ferrari who appeal, will it? It'll be all the teams. Will we see, for example, allegations of bias towards Renault in the wake of a successful appeal? After all, the FIA did also let Renault close the horsepower gap after the engine freeze rule came in....

It's a shame that Brawn don't have a young looking driver like Vettel, so we could all laugh at his race suit with VIRGIN written all over it. :D

Don't see what needs clarifying. rules are there to be bent. tough luck if you didn't think r it. Rules should not be changed or clarified till the end of the season. Once it gets the ok from the stewards that's that. Don't like it, well copy the design.

Ohh great news for BrawnGP lets hope it all goes well and the deal is signed.,

Its the right decision, which is great. esp with the lack of in season testing. Anyone else notice how maclaren havent protested the diffuser? I wouldnt be supprised if the silver car came to oz with a new diffuser similar to the one used at brawn gp, infact im certain they will.

Its possible. But, if they do bring in a major new bodypart without testing it, then it will show just how desperate they are, in that they are sacrificing races, in order to speed up development of their car or introduce untested new car parts, hoping that it makes their poor car, faster.

Might of course be something to do with the fact that Mercedes don't want one of their teams protesting another....:)

And the lack of punishment for Renault for having illegally obtained data sorted on their server and discussed in meeting. ;)

It's not Pro-Ferrari - it's Anti-McLaren and has been for several years.

Tell me... how can they test the new components? Without violating the testing ban, which lasts until 01/01/2010?

Also, cargo arrived for McLaren this morning with new components in it apparently.

They have the practice sessions, or they can take a calculated gamble dependant on simulations. It's not all a loss of development mid-season, just more of a gample.

Yup - but Sunama was saying that if they bolt on a piece without testing it. There is no real testing other than on Fridays.

Even then, it's not that much.

Rumours abound - McLaren didn't appeal as their diffuser now appears to look like the Brawns. :D

They've always got computer simulations, which is 80% of the process anyway. On-track testing just makes sure it doesn't fall off and works with other components on the car. A lot of testing is down to endurance and tyre usage and they're environment specific it most cases. But I do agree, not much scope to claw much back its all wrong in the first place. This is the idea of reducing costs, put teams off taking those risks and spending money on negative development.

The McLaren had a similar design anyway, just that part of theirs was blocked off where the alleged illegal diffusers aren't due to uncertainty of it being illegal methinks.

I reckon all the teams will have the same diffuser by now :D

yes but they dont have a choise if the testing times are to go by do they.

Watching friday practice is going to be fun this year.

That might be the idea, but all it'll lead to is no innovation and 'cookie-cutter' car designs. They might as well bring in a spec chassis now if they really want to make going GP racing cheap.
