**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I don't think it's that big of a problem, he's still the same player they were trying to force out last summer (although I concede that most fans didn't actually see the logic behind this at the time).

Replacing him with Cattermole would be a huge step backwards for me, don't see how anyone in their right mind could think he's good enough to play for Liverpool.

If they can bring in a similar player in the same position then they've done ok out of the deal, if they can use the money to bring in a quality player in a more attacking area then I'd say they've done very well out of it.

Gutted about Alonso. We should get Carrick though as he is awesomely fantastic and once covered ever single blade of grass in a match with a 110% pass completion rate, nothing shorter than 100 yards.

Hmm, that wouldnt be so bad actually. It would definitely be good for Song having someone like that to learn off. Does Paddy still have the legs for the EPL though?

I've read somewhere that Wenger was considering a pay as you play deal with Viera. I too, think it would be a great deal. That way we have somebody for Song to learn from and also if we have a good holding MF like Viera then Song could be used as an emergency CB if needed.

Gutted about Alonso :(

(puts the sarcasm filter on double strength)

No replacement for success :D

Carrick wont go anywhere for a good few years yet;)

So Alonso has officially said he wants to leave, Mascherano has done likewise albeit through his agent - suddenly even with the loss of Ronaldo I now fancy our chances next season

Chelsea will be our only real threat at this rate

I thought Hleb had been bundled up in the Ibrahimovic / Eto'o deal? Has that not happend or did he just get left out of it. Funny to see him going back to Stuttgart :D.

I know how Real love to only throw money at attacking players, but compared to the prices they've paid for Ronaldo, Kaka, and Benzema, £30m is a damned good price for Alonso, and I'm surprised they're so resistant to meet it.

Ronaldo and Kaka prices are for player valuation aswell as their potential image rights income, both players are simply a lot better than Alonso to start with and image rights wise are leagues ahead of Alonso. Benzema is a star for the future for his country, young, and probably a overpriced anyway as several people wanted him.

Alonso is older, not as good, not an image rights money generator and no one else is in for him, he's not worth 30mil in any way shape or form. Not sure Real have actually overpaid for anyone yet, Kaka/Ronaldo will bring far more than their transfer fee's back into the club. Defenders were pretty damn solid deals, Alonso at anything over 20mil will be their worst value deal of the summer.

As for Vieira, he's looked an absolute joke in all his games this year(bar one I think) he's slow, hasn't got the eye anymore, defensively suspect, and fitness is questionable, 10-15 games a year for 2 years, hardly "in form". Then again, we're paying Silvestre a bunch of cash on a long contract to do nothing whatsoever for the team. Its a joke if you ask me, wouldn't offer Pires, a star and one of our best players ever more than a one year contract. But Silvestre, barely played in years, not wanted by Utd, gets a 2 year contract??

Wenger WANTS Denilson and Song to play games, why bring in another player when he has his first team players already. We might buy a centre back, and if we do he'd ship off Senderos most likely, can't see us spending anywhere else now unless its el cheapo kids for the future types.

^ Vaart can, dont see why there's so much negativity about Cattermole. Ok he's not as good as Alonso but the he's got great potential. He's proved himself and everyone is still saying he's tripe!

He's a dirty **** for a start, worse than Barton.

And, no, he hasn't really proven himself.
