Just had a quick read about Handcent and see that it can both recognize speech and speak SMS.

You said you had the "recognizer not present" error when trying "text to speech". Surely a "recognizer" is only used for "speech to text". You recognize speech but text is just text.
 
No idea... You may be right as I managed to get it to speak the text after all... I hit menu when I select the message and choose "speak"... Works pretty well actually :)

According to what I read on lithium ion batteries, that's precisely what you don't want to do. They supposedly lose capacity at a certain temperature (long charges) or when they die completely. I know my Nokia lithium ion battery turned into a sack of sh** with full discharge/recharge cycles and up until yesterday I couldn't understand why.
 
Have an issue with the standard web browser, I open it and it starts to load the HTC website but then the browser suddenly exits. Have to restart the browser once or twice before it doesn't do it.

Anyone experienced anything similar?

Yeah, go into manage applications, can you see loads of apps there, like Gmail and calender or just the ones you've downloaded? If you can. Rosie is the app you're looking for. Select it, then clear the defaults. Now press the home button. When it asks what you would like to open the home screen with select launcher2 and set as default.

These instructions are kinda rubbish, they're from the Desire ROM on a Nexus, so it may be different/not possible at all

You can't do it now that way but if you go on the market and look for a app called Helixlauncher 2 it does the same thing with the added bonus of being able to drag things either side of the apps launcher.

Also download home switcher which gives you the option to switch between the two easier.
 
I must have watched every you tube video going today on the Desire, i am so looking forward to getting my hands on this phone.

I am sick of my broken un-responsive Omnia!!!!

Hopefully it will arrive on Tuesday or i will be ANNOYED!!
 
So, no one going to post pictures of their homescreens or any video of cool apps?

I've already seen all the footage on youtube, i need more! lol

I just replaced my Omnia yesterday with the Desire, went all over trying to find somewhere that had it in stock.

After trying Torquay and Exeter, i ended up in Plymouth who had 1 left! I snatched it so fast the shop assistant had a heart attack!

Amazing phone though, spent the best part of a day just messing around with apps.
