Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I've finally handed in my notice at my current job, such a relief; it feels like a massive weight has been lifted.

I've got the rest of the month to work off my notice and then I start my new job on the 1st of November, shold be interesting.

To those that are still looking, good luck! Wasn't easy to find my new poistion but persistance paid off in the end.

So far - approximately 70 applications made, only 1 interview (unsuccessful).

Only 1 company got back to me and they said they had 300 applicants for the position.

Starting to get quite demoralised now.

guys 70 applications is nothing
I was doing that many in a month, and I was unemployed for 7 months in the end.
if you need A job, any job, then apply for EVERY job!
bear in mind, 70 apps a month is only 2-3 a day.

How on earth did you ensure they were all quality applications?

How on earth did you ensure they were all quality applications?

Depends what kind of applications really.

Half the time a 'general' CV will do for 'any old job' as long as it shows your skills etc.

But naturally if you're going to do something more specific then a catered CV is better :p

lot had online forms that I'd already filled in (NHS etc)
others, generic apps with or without covering letter
1 paragraph to re-phrase if that.
it's not that hard.
when you're jobseeking seeking jobs and applying for jobs IS YOUR JOB. expect to do it 8-4:30 every day.

YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

had a 'work trial' for the last few days, was offered the job permanently today. Working in Tax for a decent accountants. Time to start my career. happpyy dayssss!!!!!

good-bye 6 months unemployment thanks to a crappy recession.

Finally heard back from the first telephone interview I had months ago with a company, they want me back for a 2nd interview and I'm the only one they have asked back.

Could be interesting...

Hi all,

For thoes that have managed to get a new job with their current CV.
What do you do!?

I've had my C.V on various websites (Monster,Job Site, Reed , etc.)
& had 0 responce :(

I know that i'm not quallified as most here but my highest qullification i hold is:
Level III Advanced Diploma for I.T. Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) (Oct 2004)

Since 2004 as i regret to say. Went full time with Sainsburys and caught in a rutt. Dec 24th 09 - dislocated my knee, had to have surgery. And returning to work 20th Oct 2010. But i really need something new 13yrs service for Sainsburys and not much to show for it really.

At college at the moment doing a beginner course for Digital DSLR's.

I do have a C.V but i think its that bad its not getting noticed!

I think it all depends on what industry and what you actually specialise in.

I've been out of work for the best part of 6 months, which was my own choosing, I opted for voluntary redundancy. The company got taken over and they outsourced IT support. Most of my work is around Virtualisation and Storage. So I travelled around Thailand for a bit and then was a bum for all of 4 months.

Literally last week I updated my CV and started applying for jobs. Out of 4 applications I got 3 interviews. Went to my 1st interview (weds), got thru to the 2nd which was the next day. Went to the 2nd interview, an hour after I came out I got the call that they offered me the role, I accepted and started on Friday.

Well i think as my I.T skills on the practical side are still fine! As i use them at home and to help out friends with software/hardware issues. It's just all the other stuff ive not used office since college (apart from word) i wouldn't know what to do now.

And as my main strong point is retail / customer service / sales etc. I've been looking at Saga to apply for as their are job oppertunieis opening up.

Anyone willing to share a copy of there C.V so i can get an idea of a decent C.V thats current! :P

Just been rejected by Asda. Can't even get a job stacking shelves. Also have been rejected by O2.

I have 3+ years experience in retail, a degree, unpaid volunteering etc.
What more do employers want?!

i dont really know what to do atm, was made redundant on the 24th Sept from the place I have worked for for nearly 12 years, I have 3 months notice that for one reason or another I wont be seeing out. Ive started to make decent tracks into starting up on my own with a couple of the other chaps who were made redundant like me and work seems to be coming in rather fast.

nothing is actually set up as yet but we have work we are commited to and pipeline work and then today I get a call for an interview in a really good practice in Leicester.

My CV is strong and I don't really fear getting work and I know that any interview I get, I will get the job but what do I do, I'm torn between the joys of being my own boss and guaranteed monthly salary.

Well that's helpfull isn't it =/

Keep at it guys, its hard currently.

I know people with two degrees not getting jobs, then people with 'just' A-Levels, getting jobs.

Sickens me

Just managed to secure a temp job at a Phones 4 U store in town, glad I got something after months of searching.

Anyone here been on jobseekers? If so how long did it take for your payments to start coming through?

Why are you applying for unsuitable jobs? I'm not really surprised that you didn't get the job, with a degree and experience, you are hardly likely to be there long-term. And people hiring have to consider the suitability (both ways) of the candidate. You don't want a drug-addict who is going to sell the shelves for crack, nor do you want to hire someone with a degree who will probably just be using the job as a stop-gap whilst they search for other jobs.

I made the mistake of hiring someone I thought was overqualified once, never again. They didn't concentrate on the work and spent a good proportion of the time arriving late or leaving early (presumably to go for other interviews).

*shrugs*

I'm not saying it doesn't suck, just that there are reasons why you have been rejected.

What is your degree and retail experience? What sort of roles are you applying for?

I have a degree in English Lit & Journalism (got a 2:2 but that's my own fault) and I have retail experience in Sainsbury's as well as smaller outlets. I'm applying for retail jobs at the moment because there is literally nothing in the field I want to go into, journalism, though I've had an internship in that field.

Right now I just want a job, any job. I've been unemployed for months now and I'm really hating it.
