The u2412m is targetted more at pc use, than console game or HDTV use, and to get this low price, some compromises had to be made.
If you don't plan to use it for consoles, it is a very good monitor.
I've just finally bit the bullet and ordered two, to team up with my u2405fpw. So exciting!

the u2410 is still a better monitor IMO

Of course it is, it costs over 50% more to buy.
I have two U2412M screens and they are fantastic for the price.
With discount codes and topcashback mine will end up at just £260 each.
And would me cost £244 each

Mr_T: $?9ZZ6RKK2XZDF - I just googled for Dell discount code and this 15% one came up.. (the site i got it off reports a 75% success rate for the code to work). Think I might buy one tonight as seems to take a week for them to be delivered here and I want it for this weekend/early next week!
At that price, you're mad not to get one.

I bought the new 21.5" Dell
Not impressed with it. It might be the coating on the screen but the picture looks grainy, the whites in particular have got tiny rgb specks. Also the backlight for the whole panel is far from even, noticeable if the screen is on a single block colour.
I've come from using my Macbook Pro screen which is glossy (I dislike glossy) but I do have new appreciation for its image quality. Before my glossy days I had a Formac LCD and some other Apple laptops, no complaints with them.

I read reviews describing the technical reasons for a grainy film effect, so it's not your imagination, but it must be subtle - I cant see it on my screens unless I look really hard. I have been using them for a day now and they look pretty awesome.
If you are into gaming, dont buy U2412M.
U2412M is a really bad gamingmonitor because of bad implemented overdrive which cause horrible reverse ghosting. I would say that U2412M is nearly useless for gaming.

U2412M also has severe problems with backlight bleed and Digitalversus gave it 3/5 in total so they are not impressed with that screen overall either.
Buy U2311H if you want a proper IPS screen for gaming. Digitalversus gave it 5/5 in total (4/5 in responsiveness which is as good as it gets for an IPS monitor)
U2311H is faster with far less ghosting and a better screen over all than U2412M.

I've owned this monitor for a couple of weeks now and the ghosting isn't nearly as bad as that review makes it sound and it's certainly not 'useless for gaming', at least not because of that.
The real killer for me is the backlight bleed. It's so strong on my monitor that it makes reading text on a dark background pretty uncomfortable and there is a very noticeable gradient visible when looking at either a very light or very dark screen.
As such, I would not recommend this monitor at all.

^^Agreed with Ritz. On the most part. Backlight bleed isn't really noticeable on my screen.
I'm going to have to disagree. I've been using the U2412M for around 2 weeks now and playing games and haven't noticed ghosting or anything to cause concern.
Imo saying it's a REALLY BAD and USELESS gaming monitor is 100% not true and incredibly misleading. The majority of people (like myself) are not going to notice any issues like these review sites mention. They go in to crazy detail regarding absolutely everything, colour depths in minuscule detail etc, nit picking at things most people will not see. For gaming this is spot on imo. Colours are strong, no ghosting. Display looks amazing.

Overdrive can be turned off via a service menu if you REALLY do see any reverse ghosting - wider opinion is that the motion test digitalversus uses is juddery and inaccurate.

I've also run tests myself to check for this, and nothing like the digitalversus test is apparent in reality.
On the contrary this monitor also has virtually no input lag, making it well suited for gaming.
Regarding backlight uniformity, my units don't have any obvious issues. Prad's evaluation of their unit was "The brightness variations are acceptable from a LED device and are suitable for everyday use for normal users." (translated de->en). Obviously some units may well have issues with this like any LCD though, and can always be RMAd.
More apparent than any backlight variations to me, is the IPS glow which shifts across blacks off angle. But this is a side effect of the technology, so not really the U2412Ms fault. I'm still not sure why every IPS doesn't use an A-TW polariser like the NEC 2490wuxi though. :/
