***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Dale Gomez (I something like that) a 24 year old Argentinian striker who's quick, good finishing and good passing, terrible composure though so never let him take penalties.
Interesting... I've signed Dali Gomez, and his passing and finishing are very poor [though he's performing okay for me so far]. Also bear in mind that he's a Left-footer, and he speako no Inglese, so you'll have to give him time.

I've not unearthed any bona-fide LL gems yet [that's what you get for a Sunday League reputation, I suppose!], but the better players I've found are:

Calum Dingwall [AF/Poacher] - Relatively fast, strong and with good anticipation and off-the-ball movement, which makes him a good poacher, despite his lack of finishing skill. A great candidate for "Target Man (Run onto ball)".
Billy Tsovolos [Left FB, CD] - A promising young Aussie defender who I think was at Eastleigh [so no work permit faff]. Better than average passing means he can play as a CD rather than a LD. He can also play Left full-back, but he's a right-footer so won't make the most of that position.
Ladjie Soukouna [Anywhere!] - The most versatile player I think I've ever seen in FM [seriously, check out his Positions map!]. Not amazing attribute-wise, but combine his physical bias and versatility and you've got an excellent LL small-squad member, and perhaps the best BWM for a 4-4-2 in the basement divisions.

I have to say I'm struggling to find the gems that FM2012 seemed more generous to dish out. My system is crying out for a creative Trequartista/AP - usually, I can find some 30-odd year old foreign veteran with mostly-10s across the Technical and Mental attributes, but not with 2013 so far. I'm certainly relying on loans more than I needed to previously.

EDIT: Not noticed anything suspicious with the 13 match engine, I have to say. But then again, I never go back and replay games/saves unless there's a crash [which amazingly, there hasn't been yet :o]

So you succumbed then Simisker and bought it!?
You have no will power! :p
Hey, I lasted a good 25 minutes :D

Actually, once I saw that there were global leaderboards and the "pit your team against your friends' team" feature, it was pretty much a done deal. Now I finally have a chance to see if I'm as good at this damn game as I think I am!

There's an African striker who is very good and develops extremely quickly - and he is happy to play at LL as he played for me in Ayr. I can't remember his name so check a few pages back. He's worth a punt. He might just be a touch out of your reach though - I had to invest £30k in him but my board sold him for over half a million if memory serves.

Here are some of my best players. Take into account it has taken me many years to reach this level, and I STILL can't afford the very best the game has to offer.

This is my #1 striker. A world class player now, and an amazing talent. I had to invest £20 million to get him but he has been worth every penny. I could probably sell him for double that now.

This chap is my #1 defender. He was also an expensive investment. I had to pay £35 million to get him.

Now this is my #2 striker at the moment. A young gun who has proved to be quite a player. A £16 million investment but I've got a feeling he will turn into something really special.

This chap is one of my best midfielders. A cracking young Home-Grown who has been very reliable to date. I try to play him most games if I can.

This young chap I am trying to develop in my first team. I can't afford to play him every game but I am trying to give him as much experience as I can. I've got a feeling he will turn into a great player given his stats.

^ Some nice players you got 2025 though blimey that is addiction :D

I have signed that Dali Gomez chap got him on a free my plan at the moment is scouring through premiership, championship, League one clubs to see what free transfers they let go.

Yup I am definitely addicted :( I just really enjoy the strategy behind it. A long term vision is key ;) For instance, I am now finding 14 and 15 year olds in the darkest depths and buying them up early whilst they are a couple of million or so. Hopefully by the time they are 17 or 18 they will be ready for my team. This is the only chance I have of discovering raw talent before it becomes impossible to afford them. Of course, there is a risk associated with that.

It took me several seasons to really understand how it all works and fits together. The game is so deep though, there is always something new to discover. I love it!

I've got a few more players that are worth showcasing. I'll add them in due course.

Cool i only found out about new director of football yesterday so using him at moment just giving him a load of transfer targets.

Indeed. Just remember that if you add a transfer target that player will become the priority regardless of any deals you do. The DOF will do whatever he can do negotiate the sale, even if you can't really afford it. I prefer to manually manage all my transfers apart from Youth team. I let my youth managers handle contracts and loans. But I sign off all sales. That's really important.

I've been in the situation before where there have been free transfers whom I have expressed an interest, to be 'bought' by the DOF for their transfer fee when their contracts expired. I don't know if that was a bug but it was bloody annoying. That happened several times before I realised what was going on. I ended up withdrawing from sale, and losing the player as a result. That's the DOF for you... I've also been in situations where the DOF has managed a successful sale BUT it was so costly that it crippled my transfer budget for seasons to come. Just remember that you CAN pay monthly for someone special but that montly repayment will still be with you until it has been completely paid, even if you don't own the player anymore.

They're all pretty pants in the lower leagues. If you want to give yourself a head start, choose a team with decent training facilities. Any team can become excellent given enough time and money ;)

I must have requested the board upgrade our training facilities a dozen times over the last 5 years, same reply every time - No money :(

Yep been there. The only way to get money is to win tournaments.. I'm just through the 5th expansion of my training and youth facilties, and now they are building a new stadium for me costing £101 million. :D But it takes years to get here so be patient ;)

What clubs do you use for feeders? I want a 1 or 2 year feeder club for work permits but can't find any..

About half way through my first season in the Championship and things aren't going as bad as I first feared. I think we're sitting about 10th. After the bad start we went on a bit of an unbeaten run which took us to 5th. We then lost 3 in a row, all to teams in the top 6, even though stats and ass man said we were dominating.

Have gone on to win the next 2. I'll be very happy with a top 10 finish. If we can manage that then hopefully the chairman will loosen the purse strings. What would really help though is better gates. Only have a crowd average of 6k.

For those who have taken a non-league side to the premiership - What sort of crowds do you get in? Will they continue to grow through the years? Do clubs have a maximum expected crowd average (sphere of influence?)
