Windows 10

Hopefully it is the full version ISO DVD they give us that just requires your new Product Key and not a upgrade
ISO DVD that requires your new Product Key as well as your original Windows disc you upgraded from.

It won't feel the same if it is an upgrade version we get free.

Quick question: I have Windows 7 on my 64GB SSD but I'm running out of disk space so I ordered a 250GB one. Would it be better to clone the disk and keep using Windows 7, or would it be a good idea to run the preview version of 10, then buy the final version of Windows 10? (I'd rather skip 8.1)

If you are going to upgrade to Windows 10 free when it is available and still would like to use your existing Windows 7 install. I would imagine once you have upgraded
your Windows 7 product key to Windows 10, your Windows 7 activation will become invalid and won't activate anymore online or via phone. If you want to
keep using Windows 7 after you've took on the free upgrade, you will probably need to purchase a new Windows 7 product key.

I might be wrong thought.

You are half right.

The key will still work and will activate fine, however you would not legally be licensed to use both Windows 7 and Windows 10 at the same time. Having said that however if you dual boot on the same machine then it's more of a grey area (and I'd argue perfectly fine).

I'm guessing you just enter the vk key from MS website and change it to your windows 8 key once windows 10 is installed. (How I installed 8.1 from a USB ISO)

That would be great if your existing Windows install would still keep the activation even after the free Windows 10 upgrade if you
are planning to clone your existing Windows onto a second Hard Drive and dual boot your existing Windows and Windows 10.

It could be useful compatibility wise yes and I do not see any reason why it would not work.

This leads me to ask a similar question. The mother in laws laptop was goosed so I've got the job to sort it and a reinstall is the only answer (windows 7). I've installed the technical preview and it runs sweet, found all drivers, easy peasy. No waiting forever to download updates.......

So when it comes to windows 10 RTM/release for free upgraders does anyone know if the official new version will allow an over install onto the existing setup, keeping existing installed programs and settings? That would be rather useful as I'm tempted to give her laptop back with 10 technical preview on it.

I'm assuming that wouldn't be a bad idea even though is not designed for 65 year computerphobes like her. Its set to the slow ring for updated builds - I presume when the updated builds come out they are optional?

thanks

I think you will need to re install the OS to put on the final release of the OS.

i haven't followed all the build releases but i think some builds required a re install of the OS rather than getting the updates to that version of the build but i maybe wrong though.

Just got my copy/key for windows 8.1 pro today. Currently running 7 pro. Should I stay with 7 just now and wait for 10 to be released, or just install 8.1 and upgrade to 10 when required?

Also, when 10 comes out, would I only be able to upgrade by installing over 8.1 or do you think the keys would activate on a new 10 install?

Cheers

I think I might be changing my mind about the Atom's, got a DVP8 here, stuck 10 on it and its not that bad actually..

So far, so good bad.
