gigabyte ax370 k5 vs 5?

sod it - go against everything I said at the start of this thread and going for the Gaming 5 - that was the first board I had thought about but the white shroud thing put me off, i'll likely just remove it or cover it. no bclk chip but better vrms. can't see me benefitting from the extra ££'s the K7 offers and just don't feel 100% comfortable with weaker power circuitry on the K5 (even though it would most likely do me fine!)

so;
Gaming 5 motherboard
R5 1600
2 x 8gb Corsair lpx ram (don't get me started on ram either - heads fried trying to decide what ram to get too! been back and forth between it and the geil & gskil rgb stuff

all in will set me back just over 500 quid - can't complain as I had set my budget at £600 for all cpu/ram/mobo

Ya Wango your first thought is the one , go for the gaming 5 - what i using now ,you got the vrms power if you ever need all that , nice to have i guess , Be bios update soon to hopefully get higher memory clocks :) , 1600 6 core sweet to ,

Na i not going to start on Memory ,theres nothing really to say ,Bios update sort out memory that do 3000mhz /3200mhz hopefully soon support for more on the SK HYNIX Chips

@Thekwango Push 3200hz with the corsair, might not get lucky with the XMP first time around but it will improve over time, and ram prices increasing to least you can increase speed over time! instead of forking out for faster ram when it all starts working :)

My head almost overloaded looking at all the G ..skill & other brands , doing research on Samsung B-DIE , at the end i was going to go for
Xtreem T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C18 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black , but left it as £188 was alittle too much to bear , but i guess 3600mhz down cloked to 3200 - 14 -14- 14- 36 you could do

But na ,i'm sticking with my
Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2A24 for now , running at 2400 when the XMP Enabled , all fine

At the moment with a lot of 3000mhz/3200 only ok & boot fine upto 2666mhz , but if your sticks are single rank & samsung B-Die You should have a more easy time & anyhow new bios update should fix the rest :)

Latest bios flash

i got the latest bios for the gaming 5 & placed it on a USB stick unziped in folder , placed it in a usb port on front & turned the pc on & hit del key into bios then used the built in Q-Flash , it picks up usb sticks right away then goto the folder on usb stick & follow the info on screen.

yes mate - 3200 ram is what I'm getting

im lucky, K5 which doesn't support LXP 3000hz 16gb is allow them at 2933hz with XMP enabled :D boom
You may be lucky to have Single rank with samsung B-die , Have you check what the ic's are ? with aida64 or Thaiphoon Burner ..ect

I thought the May bios update was going to sort that out, meaning it wasn't going to be so vital to get Sammy B-die?

Nope the first Update CPU AGESA 1004a bios that went out did not add high memory timings for
SK HYNIX Chips , This next update they AMD Stated.

Ah , i retired my self from Custom water cooling in 2013 , Parts back then was cheaper but still cost a lot ,Barbs ,Hose ,
CPU Waterblock ,GPU waterblock ,Res , Pump , Rad , bottles of liquid , Bugger to drain & Disconnect if hardware fails or wanted to change hardware.

Yea I'm just doing a cpu loop (for now) mainly for aesthetics as the pc is going on a shelf about shoulder height (got a 2 year old who is just fascinated by so is never done poking and pulling at it) and I hate the look of air coolers.

Ya ,Good thing about a Liquid CPU Block , They don't take much room & Look nice , let us know When your up & running & how you got on:)

Gaming 5 and K7 get bios update priority, so there's that. Also, gigabytematt has the 1006 alpha bios running memory at 3600mhz so the bclk adjustment of the k7 and k5 isn't such a big deal unless you're a serious tweaker.

Good to know. Yay weighing up the pros and cons the blck adjustment became a relatively low priority given I don't have the time for tweaking that I used to have. Reality is I'm now at a stage in life where a stable system with a moderate OC is what I need to be aiming for.

Boils down to colour at the end of the day followed by Price if BLCK not a factor or being eased out. I prefer black ;) makes LEDs stand out more

does go well with corsair SP RGB Fans - Gigabyte got on a good path with the G1 Z170 and matching Aorus mobo and GPU does look stunning
