Even when new consoles come out, they will just ramp up graphics quality and target 30fps in most AAA games. So will still need a PC if you want 60fps. They will probably use checkerboarding also.

Saying that, I will be grabbing a PS5 on release. But it won’t be to replace PC gaming.

I am pretty sold on a PS5 also. PC gaming in my house is a bit lonesome, so need summit with the wife, kids and grandkids

I would say grab a Nintendo Switch, but I tried it on my mates 4K TV and it looked pants, it just looks much better on native 1080p TV which is what I still have as I have not felt the rush to upgrade my LG Plasma. Also Nintendo these days take ages to release AAA exclusives.

My OLED will be with me for years I suspect, as the IQ is stunning. We used to play guitar hero/dance mats etc on the PS3 and was great family fun, so a PS5 with family fun games and the odd game for me will do nicely. No way I am giving up my PC though and no idea how people play the likes of BF1 with a controller lol.

I bought a second hand 1080, that’ll last be for a year or so.

Lisa Su literally just confirmed they are aiming for high-end with upcoming products. Whether that's 2019 or 2020 we don't know, but they are looking to take the crown again.

Hopefully this time they also target mindshare instead of just stats. Nvidia have the collective mindshare currently so sticking a product out that's superior just gets them all confused and they still buy Nvidia. Though the 2xxx debacle is certainly causing a ruckus

Yes but for them high end doesn't have to mean the same as Nvidias high end.

Last I looked, the 1080 was winning most of the bench results.

Mind you, you did trade a 1080Ti in for a Vega 64, as the 1080Ti was "boring". You would rather overclock the Vega 64 to try and eek out every drop of performance to make it more fun getting playable frame rates rather than just firing up the game and getting playable frame rates Hard to take someone serious when they do and say things like that.

I don't overclock at all. My days of caring about benchmarks etc are long behind me.

1080 Ti is still Nvidia's best GPU, and the fastest card I have ever used. Big fan of the 1080 Ti and VEGA 64. For me VEGA 64 is faster than GTX 1080 in normal games, but the 1080 pulls ahead in VR, hence why I said 'competes with'.

Mind you I only base my opinions on actual personal use with the cards, not hear say etc xD

Performance in current games is fantastic, as it should be at £1150 that it cost me but I do really want to see Raytracing in my games and in fairness, I don't even care if performance isn't there yet. A big ask from NVidia this time round, so I do hope they deliver.

Nah Sega v Nintendo . I just bought both and ended up with an Amiga 1200 in 1991. The c64 and Spectrum were a nightmare in comparison. Loading the games took long enough but when they failed it was like some kind of punishment.

Consoles are running at half the frame rate at 4K vs what a decent PC can achieve, so they have some catching up to do yet. Yes it can be expensive, but to run at parity it isn't, and to run well it also isn't. It's only if you must be at the bleeding edge do the prices get ridiculous. We're not talking like for like here.

That's because the current generation have AMD Jaguar CPU's, try running one with your 2080Ti and see what frame-rates you get. Like I said Ryzen quad core or better and next gen console frame-rates will go through the roof assuming developers don't specifically target 25fps.

Also keep in mind before the games are made they usually decide on 30 or 60 fps. 30 fps let's them max the visuals in slower paced games. High paced racing/shooter games mainly come at 60. Rdr 2 looks stunning and runs at 30. If they had targeted 60 I doubt the experience would be as good due to much poorer visuals. 30 while using a pad ain't so bad but would feel laggy as hell with a mouse.

So I felt recently Nvidia were exllotinexus consumers. 3 years now we are still paying the same for 1080 like performance.
But I really needed the card for production and for apple build.

To be honest I feel the frametimes are better and the graphics quality is better on screen. Sounds bizzare, but I literally turn of the fps counter and enjoy the games. I don't regret selling the 1080ti atall.

That’s fair enough, my friend went from a 1080 to a V64 and swears the colours are better and is happy he changed.

I don't disgaree next gen consoles will be better, but they are some way off yet. And come that point, PC tech will have moved on further. My only point was that you don't NEED to spend an absolute fortune to enjoy PC gaming at high frame rates. Even 4K doesn't need to cost the moon if you're smart about it, but most PC gamers will prefer the much higher FPS afforded by 144Hz monitors anyway, and even if you're aiming for 1440p you can build a very powerful system on a modest budget.
