What film did you watch last night?

That is NOT the current rule. I pointed out the extremely clearly written rule, if you don't like that rule talk to the Mods about changing it like we all did years ago when the rule was brought in. You obviously can do whatever you like in your posts but people following the rules are NOT doing something wrong.

Regardless of rules it's a bit of a dick move to give away certain things about films in this thread. I've had to block some members because they said a particular character died in the film for example. Who wants to know that kind of thing before watching a film?

Yeah, basically what he said :) I'm not debating 'the rule', I didn't say anything about the rule. I just stated in a fairly open thread, it would make sense to use spoilers if you're posting a spoiler. In a thread about a certain movie, personally I wouldn't go in that thread at all until I'd seen it, let alone a two week 'safe zone'. But in a generally thread about all movies, to have people posting spoilers just doesn't make sence, even 2 months after release.

As you say, everyone can do as they wish. Sure, you could spoil a film for loads of people and sleep happily at night as you didn't break any rules. Well done :)

I personally think Into The Spiderverse is very overrated. Visually it's beautiful but the story is very underwhelming and most of the characters are crap. We get it, there is a spider pig.

I've been berated by a few mates for not getting on the Spiderverse hype train. I actually fell asleep an hour into it, it was unengaging and just wasn't feeling it. Odd as I generally enjoy most comic book movies.

I feel like I need to watch it again as i'm clearly missing something as it's so well regarded.

Polar

It was alright, but could have been so much better. Mads Mikkelsen having a Solid Snake look going on which actually suited him. Good actor as well.

The big downer with this film is Matt Lucas. He's bloody awful as an actor.

6.5/10

The Spoiler rules are very clear - anything less than 2 weeks old needs spoilers, anything older doesn't. If you don't like that rule please chat to the Mods rather than telling people following the rules that they must change their posts - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/spoilers-please-read-before-posting.18799228/

I believe it's called common courtesy isn't it. I wasn't berrating the guy, just asked the spoiler button to be used. Not a hardship is it and is a benefit to ALL that haven't seen a particular movie.

Besides, in the link you posted, it even says:

Anything that spoils the series, film, or hints at what happens is classified as a spoiler and should be labelled as such. As a general rule, if you are unsure that what you are about to post may be classified as a spoiler, use spoiler tags.

Moving on and back to films!

Shimmer Lake (2017) - 7/10

A crime caper told in reverse, which seems like a bad choice until the end (beginning) of the story where it all comes together nicely.

It has a quirky style, some humorous moments and good acting, but mostly, it just rolls along without much of a fuss.

A joyous story told in reverse? Reminds me of Irreversible - what a hoot!

Is it good? I was looking at this the other week, along with Enter the Void which iirc is almost a unofficial second.

Predator 2 - 7/10 - A really good sequel which takes what people liked about the first and expands upon it with a clear concise story, good action pieces and some memorable performances which only suffers the "it's terrible" reviews because it didn't star Arnie for the most part so didn't match peoples expectations. I particularly like the expansion of Predator lore with new weapons, history, tech etc but I also think moving it to a city "the Concrete Jungle" was a master-stroke.

You posted them, but didn't read them :D

  • If posting gifs/images or other spoilers in a thread which isn't directly related to the show then the spoilers must be in spoiler tags and the show must be labelled so that those who are curious have a chance of avoiding them at least.
Yeah I know it says show, but it's under the general part. It's quite obvious in a thread dedicated to the movie, the 14 day rule applies. But to expect everyone to see every movie after 14 days after release in a generic movie thread is a bit odd.

@Begbie - I was trying (poorly) to be amusing. Irreversible is a very unpleasant / disturbing film (notable in particular for an excruciating death scene and a torturously long rape scene). I’ve only seen snippets of the former as I was morbidly curious and... yep, it’s very disturbing. I’ve never felt inclined to watch the whole thing. Some people say it’s a good film though.

Oh I got that. A good film, can still be miserable though - most of my favourite movies are miserable. I did hear it gets very, very gritty though as you've explained. Might give it a watch though!

Yeah I think that you’ve got to be prepared for it to be really unpleasant. Clever film in how it’s done I guess but very bleak and despite the ‘art’ behind it all, I think it’s nevertheless best known for a very gruesome death scene... so maybe “less is more”.

@Begbie @Nitefly if watching Irreversible, you need to follow it through until the end, as it's told in reverse, it makes the end/start that much more tragic but also explains the level of violence you initially see.

Not a movie i'd watch again, mid-section is extremely uncomfortable viewing due to it's single shot and unrelenting nature.

@SixTwoSix thanks, yes I was aware re: it’s ‘back to front’ nature and it all being made more justified / tragic by sitting through it. Sounds like hard work tbh... life is traumatic enough :p

I do like how the misery of Irreversible was broken up with yet another ‘Into the Spiderverse’ post though :D
