Everyone is different and has different views, but I thought Soul is leagues ahead of Up, even if Up was more.... ‘revolutionary’.
Up really kickstarted the exploration of ‘feels’ in family animation and it should be rightly commended for being strikingly different in that regard. Unfortunately, it really suffers through that twee Pixar bull that I was on about earlier. That kid is just ****ing annoying and even Doug, the bird and the other dogs can be a little grating on a rewatch.
Soul finally feels like they got a message and the setting of the film spot on. An underachieving good natured jazz musician... what an unusual character to explore the afterlife and, more importantly, how to live. There is some absolutely terrifying content in Soul, yet it takes such crushingly heavy subject matter and makes it fancy and light. The art style is also utterly delightful in all of the ‘other world’ scenes.
The barbershop scene is absolute amazing IMO in terms of such subtle revelations that the lead goes through. Oh man when the barber said it was so nice to talk about something other than jazz that really made me think about how self-absorbed I am!
I guess I think Up is a good story, but it’s merely a story. Soul is a great story but ultimately far more than a story.
Watched Soul, was ok. Fantastic animation as always, some chuckles but it was pretty much by the numbers Pixar nothing particularly special. Not sure it would make my top 10 Pixar movies and wouldnt watch it again unlike a lot of the others.
Soul - watched on the recommendations here and enjoyed it but it wasn't the revelation that it was made out to be by some. Obviously very high quality animation and sound and a good story too. Wall*E is still my favourite. 4/5

I saw part of this once before and after recently watching a documentary about it,
I decided to finally get around to seeing it all the way through.
To be expected, it's pretty harsh content and viewing at times, but very well acted.
One of the main characters, Jamie - played by Lucas Pittaway, had barely done any acting before, so that's certainly impressive.
It's the sort of film you might have to be in the right frame of mind to watch, or it may not even appeal at all.
Me to, i thought it was grand, run of the mill superhero movie, i think too many of the marvel movies are of similar quality to this, but are overlooked due to rose tinted good ones in the mix.
We found it quite passable.

Not sure I understand your argument. Comparing the bad marvel films to the good ones just makes the bad ones seem worse. I like the Marvel films in general but there are plenty (probably more than half) that I can take or leave. Personally I didn't have any real issues with Justice League or Aquaman and the first WW was decent enough. Again, nothing special but decent enough. This is by far the worst of the super hero films. To the point where I was considering skipping parts or giving up on it entirely.
WW84 was a car crash. I think like most people I went into it with an open mind and was expecting it to be quite good. Its not like people are going into the film expecting to not like it.
If you enjoyed it thats cool but I don't know how people can't see that all the criticisms of it are entirely valid.
I fully understand the critism but I think as it had been universally slated, i approached from below expectations, and found it not thoroughly awful.
I enjoyed the first WW film, barring the final act which frankly was dull and unnecessarily in pure CGI.
This just seemed happier for the times, I'd give it a 5/10.
And that's because Gal is lovely to look at. I watch any old crap and usually enjoy it however this film was just ridiculous, effects were awful, the story was rubbish. I had really looked forward to the sequel and hoped for something at least on par with the first, but it was a big let down.

Worse than Aquaman? Wow, that's disappointing, was going to check this out later.
I consider Aquaman one of the worst movies i've ever seen, i'm a completionist and will see almost all bad movies through to the end but it got switched off a little over halfway in.
As far as comic book movies go, Aquaman is Catwoman levels of bad
