Nearly caved in and got the 14 Pro to replace my 12 but missed the start of pre order and got October dates. Probably for the best as it’s not really an upgrade for what I use the phone for. I used to upgrade every 2 years but think it will be very 3 years going forward as they just aren’t that big jumps between phone’s now.

I kept telling myself I will get an iPhone when they switch to USBC, but then I realised that I seldom ever use the port on my current phone, I only ever wireless charge apart from the odd occasion I want a quick boost to the battery if I've managed to drain it before the day is out. So really the lightning port isn't a big deal to me at all.

So I’ve ordered the 14 pro 256gb in deep purple.
But god almighty was the pre order a shambles lol.
So after the event I went on the website and pre ordered one for Friday. So all went through with my 12 pro being used as a trade in against the finance, still have 2 payments to make. So £380 was the value they gave me and said after closing my account, it leaves me with 24 payments of £37 a mth. Just a few quid more than what I’m paying now.

Anyways come to 1pm and I’m trying to get in via the app. 5 mins later I’m in and go to my pre order, get to shipping stage of order and it throws up an error message. Times out and I try again and again same damn thing. Third times the charm right?? Nope I go in and again it times out but this time it completely wiped my pre order out .

So I’m like **** it I’ll try website rather than app. So I login in do the whole pre order thing again but it’s slow. But this time it goes through and I now get a date for 3-10 October.

Anyhow it is what it is I guess, disappointed that I won’t have my 14 pro for at least a few weeks. But have heard that I might get lucky and still get mine by next week but I doubt it. Because order screen on app is still giving me the date 3-10 October.

Not sure if anyone had the same issue as me, went on Reddit and seems like lots of people had issues.
You’re not alone my pre pre order kept throwing up an issue with my phone number despite it never being an issue previously, had to cancel that loan and run through a new finance and trade in set up which worked fine but like you I have a 3-10 October window, but hoping that will come forward as lots of people tend to order multiple devises and then cancel etc.

My order was a mess. I initially tried to order for pickup in Bath but this failed at the payment stage with an error verifying my contact details. I then tried again but all the slots in Bath were taken so I chose delivery to home instead. That went through but it appears the original has gone through as well. Now I have two phones arriving on Friday and the cancel options are disabled.

Which model did you go for?

That's not a 4:3 or 16:9 video though, normal video usage won't look too dissimilar to what we get now, ie, black border to the right of the notch in the screenshot above.

Indeed, but he was asking about full screen video specifically.

My pre-order wasn't the smoothest experience either. I was shift+F5'ing the page but it wasn't coming even after 1pm, opened it in a new tab and it worked lol. I'd saved the pre-order the day before, but decided I wanted to change from a silicone to a leather case, managed to delete the case but couldn't see how to add a new case, so in the end started with a fresh order, which then took a dozen attempts of getting payment to go through, took me half an hour in total but managed to keep the 14th for delivery. Then later in the day, I got an email saying my order is on hold as payment needs to be re-authorised, which I must have tried 30 times over a period of time, in fear of losing my delivery slot, but the site just kept giving me a spinning circle and not giving any chance of hope on any device or browser with WiFi or 5G. In the end I rang Apple and after 41 minutes on the phone, it's finally sorted and my order is back in progress, and I still have my Friday delivery date, phew!

Watching my order status like a hawk now though! Making sure it doesn't go back on hold, but I think it's all good now.

I've never understood the appeal of wireless charging. It's slow in my experience, I'm very happy just plugging a cable in.

I'd like USB-C because then I could carry around one charger and cable, my MBP is USB-C.

I get 50w wireless charging rate on the Xiaomi Mi11 or 55w over usb c with the included charger

I just attach mine to the MagSafe stand I have, way easier than any cable. Or lay it on the mat I have in my desk. The only time I ever plug it in is if I need a fast top up via a fast charger.

See, that is the appeal to me. I've always thrown my phone on a wireless charger stand on my bedside which will take 4 hours to charge my Note 10+, perfect for some battery preservation while charging overnight. It's certainly helped anyway, accubattery showing 95% health after over 3 years of use.

How’s it any more convenient than just plugging in a cable?

I drilled hole under the desk so can drop the phone on desk so no need to attach cable just drop the phone on desk while on PC and it charges and charger is hidden away

overnight in bed I use the cable next to me with slow charger

I've decided to move to iOS after a lifetime of being on Android, already an iPad Air user.
Since it's a first purchase, would people suggest going for a 13 or straight for a 14? I want a size similar to my OnePlus 7 Pro and also plan to ditch my Sony camera in the process. Cheers

Realistically you could go either - in the standard 13 and 14 models there has only been incremental improvements, although the cameras have had what seems to be a decent bump. If you're replacing a Sony camera too, push to the 14 if you can. If not, the 13 is a £200 saving...

But if you want to use the phone you have to take if off charge, I just find that annoying
I dont use it much or at all when on the PC and picking it up to look at messages its only for few seconds and just put it back down and at 50w it really doesnt take long to charge :) , I understand if you constantly have to voice call could always leave it on the wireless charge with loud speaker / camera call I rarely use the phone for either

I’d go refurb 13 Pro over a 14. Nicer build, extra camera, pro motion display all well worth it. Have a look on GiffGaff. 13 Pros are currently £799 and tend to be as good as new. No quibble returns if you’re not happy.
