******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Been having a cracking time on SC this weekend, until my ship just randomly blew up. I say random as I saw for the first time another player whilst landed on a moon visiting an outpost. Thought nothing of it but when I tried to log out I couldn't sleep (ship not landed error) so googled it and it suggested there might be another player on the ship! I thought maybe that guy I saw might have snuck onto my ship but couldn't find anyone so assumed it was a bug. Proceeded to plot a course to a station so I could log out and whilst in the star-map, I went boom! So none the wiser but a little disheartening as I had some stuff on my ship for once.

It's such a better state than I last played it, you can actually see it coming together a lot better now.

Someone just sent me a standalone ship as a gift, a Fury, I have no clue who it is as I thought you needed someones name and email to gift ships and I haven't given out either ?

EDIT

Nevermind apparently my housemate saw my username and gifted me his flying fish bowl :D

I've got a 400i but I am sorely tempted by the 600i explorer... probably pick one up in game I think; I've already backed a lot. The 600i looks lovely from the outside and it does allow for greater vehicle use compared to the 400i but its not as fast or nimble which for my general solo play or with the kids is mostly better I think.

The 400i is a great size of ship, I would like them to bring out more of that size from the other manufacturers. I find the Carrack a bit too big and I'm not a huge fan of the Drake Corsair's looks.

Yeah I had the corsair and while I like the industrial look it wasn't for me. Just found that it didn't suit my style of play and I was never really going to get enough people to crew it to make it work well enough... the 400i has 3 seats, enough for me and the 2 kids.

Can I run this?

Is there enough in this game to have any semblance of a gameplay loop?
perfectly fine.

Got a SSD nvme i presume?

You can do this in the pu right now:

  • Mining(handheld, buggy vehicle and ship mining) alonmg with a bucket load of mining attachments , different materials to mine and refining them)
  • Salvaging(Hull stripping and ship components stripping and missions for salvaging)
  • Bounty hunting pve or pvp missions
  • Delivery box missions(single boxes or multi box pickup and drop)
  • Investigation missions
  • pirate missions
  • Racing missions
  • In game special event missions(jumptown 2.0, xenothreat etc)
  • Mercenary missions
  • Dynamic missions driven by players(Kareah and ghost hollow missions)
Those are justs ome of things you can do in game right now

Seems they're experimenting with 144Hz tick servers for arena commander for 3.20. Which would be amazing until you go back into the PU and lose it :D

I have been hopping on the Free Fly weekends for the last few years to see how the game is progressing. Just been playing it today.

The first time I played Star Citizen I came away very impressed with the huge scope, the impressive visuals and the great audio. I could look past the bugs because it was (relatively) early days and there was nothing else like it. That must have been 5 years ago or something.

After playing it today, I have come to the conclusion that this game is a scam. The visuals are no longer all that impressive as other games have caught up. The bugs are ridiculous at this point. On the tutorial station I wondered where all the NPC's were as I remember from the last time playing the station had loads of NPC's wandering about (albeit T posing at the same time). I found the NPC's eventually. There was about 30 of them all bundled up together in the middle of a platform all stood still facing the same direction.

Performance is still abysmal on stations. Constant frame drops.

The mobiglass system is very unintuitive and clumsy. I managed to buy a gun and accept a mission. I figured out how to get to the mission location where I was to pick up a package from a hostile area. I found a group of enemies standing statically completely ignoring my ship which I blasted with my ships guns. I landed and got out of my ship when I noticed an enemy I had missed. I went to shoot them and found that I had no ammo. I suppose I was supposed to buy that separately. The enemy promptly shot me and I found out that I was slowly dying with no way to stop the blood loss.

I love space games but Star Citizen is just not a fun experience.

The game seems to have not really progressed all that far in the 5 or so years I have been trying it. How could this be?

I am so glad I haven't put any money into this game.
