******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

So went through character creation, pretty poorly designed imo. Chose persistent universe and I couldn't select a system, the arrow changed only with no options to select, at that point I was soft locked and had to alt+f4. Guess I'll wait another 10 years for them to get the basics right.

I just flew my ship full of gear to sell onto a landing pad, I pressed 'exit ship'... I died because the 'cockpit animation' forgot to put a ladder down for me. So I just fell onto the pad and bled out. I'm glad I went with a cheap starter ship.

Star Citizen really is a joke considering the time in development.

Go back to loot your corpse and grab your ship, it should all be there.

Aslo, what ship was that?

Tried again multiple times, uninstalling/reinstalling, verifying, changing installation drives etc etc and still didn't work. Managed to get two selection boxes in the end but both were exhibiting the same behaviour as before so I gave up and uninstalled. Turns out it doesn't add to the add/remove programs list, only the launcher does and if you remove that it leaves 90gb of files in the installation directory. What a shambles.

@Frenzy did you go here

Ok, sorry, the game is a mess right now and there is no excuse for it. Even some of its most ardent proponents are getting sick of it all, including me.

The youtube video in your sig made me try it again, haha. Otherwise I would have uninstalled the other day!

Well I had a go.

Liked:

- The way you interact with objects.
- I flew from ground out into space, cloud and rain and sun breaking through.
- seamless experience between ground and going into ship etc. Ability to customise a larger interior could be so fun.

Didn't like:

- Well npcs had T poses
- the graphics especially on the ground looked dated.
- even in space I got this weird pixelated/noise casted over.
- ran awful - if I was to guess it was 25-30 fps.
- no uninstall feature - had to find the files manually. Ridiculous!
- controls were pretty awful tbh. Maybe it was me but I was trying to use a controller and the tips weren't helpful to a newbie. I switched to keyboard even then keys were unbinded.

There's a lot to sort here and I can't avoid knowing this has been in productions for years......

When it works its a good game.
Sadly that's becoming increasingly rare this past year or so...

Did some mining over the free fly in a Prospector, it's pretty chilled. Did a couple of runs in the middle of the week and sold all that, made a decent amount of cash. Did a bunch more mining over the weekend, loaded all the refined cargo into an MSR and flew down to Lorville. 30k struck not long after landing, logged back in only to find I've lost all the cargo. Great... I see that 30k crash recovery isn't working at all then. I had reasonably high hopes at first, ship was available to retrieve in Lorville rather than a Claim as I'd expect from previously, but nothing in the cargo grid. Well that's a few hours work and maybe ~500k auec down the drain. Sigh. Knew I shouldn't have tried to invest any time into making money again with recent stability issues.

I think recently the servers have been better than they've ever been. Especially considering there's a free fly on they've been reasonably solid. There are times when the server starts to die, desync kicks in etc. and after a while longer it 30k's and crashes. But far, far less than any other patch I've been in.

I've had one crash and two 30k in the last week. The crash was when I tabbed back into the game and on restart it took me straight back into my character as if nothing had happened. This is hit or miss though depending on what you were doing at the time.

The UI is awful as are some other systems still which they keep kicking further down the line for one reason or another and often because it requires other systems to be in place as well. I do feel they're reaching a stage where they need results soon, a few of the major system overhauls are close but they're running out of time to get them working. As with many other games, friends to play with and do things with is what make the game. The Org I play with run three events weekly that people can turn up to and it's these events that I actually play 95% of the time.

I am very excited for 3.20 patch that's due soon(tm) as they're completely redoing Arena Commander and Star Commander. The standalone games that let you jump straight in and fight people. There's a ton of changes due and being worked on. These modes are different to the main PU game, run better and are far more focused. They're currently experimenting with 144 tick rate servers, improved flight models etc. This is being done by a separate team to the ones working on the other game modes but most of it will be carried over.

LevelCap did a vid recently on if the games getting outdated.

Graphically some of it does look dated, some of it still looks stunning.

I agree with LevelCap, improve the lighting, update the older textures, sort the LOD out, that's its biggest problem, the game needs its own version of Nanite.

I really want this to do well. It's got the depth that Elite lacks. Even if they got the basics sorted and a beta launched that would be welcomed.

Just taking far far too long.

When it works its a good game.

It does look fun, that door knocking you over made me lol! The AI seems like it needs work. Sound design didn't seem great, unless your volume was just really low. Graphics didn't look as amazing as I expected them to be but I guess time has caught up.

When you were sitting in that room talking to each other I couldn't help but feel they should implement some facial recognition tech, like have a camera be able to read your expressions and translate them in game.

I have the ingame sound turned down a bit so i can hear people in Discord properly.
