Questions - Diesel engine and transmission / gearbox reliability circa 2014-2019 -BMW - Mercedes - Audi ( on small hatchback or coupe models)

No, the £817 is without roadside assistance and with the £250 excess

What car is that for? I just renewed the BMW comprehensive with roadside assist warranty with £250 excess for my M5 Comp for £935 for the year.

It's for the 420d that djmk4 posted.
It's out of BMW warranty hence the first year BMW insured warranty is always eye-watering.

I don't understand this discussion.
Budget is too small for the spec and condition you want. You have two choices; up your budget or compromise on model and spec. Simple.
When we bought our CX5 I wanted a post 2021 model that has the better nav screen. It needed to be a Sport GT so it got the cooled seats. My budget was £25k.
It turns out I needed £27k to get the spec and age I wanted but my budget wasn't moveable so I compromised and got a Sport GT that was pre 2021.

Sometimes the money you have isn't enough to buy what you want. That's life.

I see it on the S2000 forums all the time: "I've got £10k and want an unmolested, original, low-milage, facelift between 2004 and 2006 but I can't find any" - Well yeah, they don't exist for that budget.

or return to manual 67 https://www.marshall.co.uk/vauxhall/used-cars/19217475-bmw-3-series-320d-m-sport-4dr/
people don't want them (hard to use them) 1 year warranty w/roadside.
I was only going to accept Msport with smaller wheels to offset the poor cambs roads (those with adaptive M use it in comfort anyway - from earlier posts)

big screen / no flappy 68.

but not close to you ? my biggest issue was finding something close I wasn't going to pay to have it driven (from back end of beyond) even if it was auc

Anyone used a place like this before? (Listed on pistonheads by carsupermarket.com

Minimum 12 months Warrenty

?

Or is it better waiting for one to come along on the BMW used approved

Isn't that over your budget?

Well, a tad, but then my budget is exandable to a point, im not going to pay £17k for instance, even though i have adequate savings.

i dont think i need to expand my budget from £14500 to £18k for instance to find what i want.

The question was around the seller, however, speaking with them this morning and looking at their website, their 12 months built in warranty does not cover things like engine, gearbox, transmission, turbo

if you want that covered you need to go for their premium warranty

the list of "whats not included" in the standard 12 month thrown in warrenty is quite a large list of items they dont cover

I thought the whole point of people stating go for approved used is for 12 months warrenty? sytner offer a 3 month warrenty, how is this any different from going to a normal trader?

Doesn't look like it is an AUC, just happens to be from a BMW Dealer (Sytner).

Likely this means it's possibly missed a service or something else that means it can't be sold as Approved Used.

Yeh its sytner, i noticed the cars on there seem to be a little more pricier, and they only see to use 3 months warranty

Its an option i guess.

I still am not convinced about ruling "out" a decent trade garage, with 4.5 to 5 starts, and good reviews. otherwise its limiting your search scope. Although one thing i wont accept is non written warranty promises and warranty which is not tied to a proper warranty company.

So basically the 12 months warranty is worthless - hence the reason why we keep reiterating that the only warranty that is definitely worth having is the BMW approved one.

Well clearly you can't get what you actually want, whereas £17k-£18k probably would.

To get the 12 month warranty it needs to be an actual 'BMW approved used' car. Sytner definitely do offer these as I've bought one previously and am currently using the warranty to have some work done. However finding an AUC will get more difficult the older the car is because people will be less willing to pay for the approved BMW warranty as the cars value diminishes, so Sytner will offer it instead with the basic warranty.

As has been said many times in this thread, it seems you're looking for champagne on beer money. You will have to compromise somewhere.

At that particular place yes, it just seems like one of these big car giant supermarket places, which i dont trust.

Other places i have seen will cover items, i have had turbo replaced before, i have had new calipers, ABS sensors and rings replaced

Luckily thats about the extent of issues that i have had on a vehicle to be honest when buying. Turbo only the once.

Good to know. Scraping around at the bottom of the 420d barrel doesn't seem to really reflect this however :p

Just get an AUC one, you're going to regret it otherwise, don't say you weren’t warned. Also, forget the small print of these dealer warranties, they can wriggle out of pretty much anything if they want to.

yes the syntner advertising is a bit disingenuous when you see they are only talking 3 months;

I got a 12month car care plan warranty with car from Marshalls - maybe not worth the paper it is written on,
but if you have purchased a car with 50K miles you've got to accept some risk and put money aside for repairs or get into mindset of paying monthly protection money for extended warranties;
I hopefully narrowed the odd with a manual petrol .... which is what I wanted anyway.

Had a solo test drive of this today.. they let me go out in it on my own .

The 420i gran.coup I was looking at a while ago

Seems to drive ok, I think power wise it is ok although one thing I noticed straight away was the difference in engine noise compared to the.420d.when inside or when idling at lights .
,
although I did notice between 50-70 there was flat spot on power delivery. Is this just because I'm more used to diesel?. I though the torque is felt more when your pulling off?

This is a manual box though so i didn't get a chance to test out a ZF8 auto

They had dropped the price £200 since I last looked at it as it was listed as £14449 but is now £142xx

The warrenty side of things they said they use a Warrenty administrator but its.their own Warrenty (not sure what to think of that) I asked if it could be taken to an AA approved garage should something happen it was a yes

I done this to try and decide on a 420d Vs 420i

I've used 3rd party warranties before

If something goes wrong you have to call them up first to find out if the garage you'll bring the car to will be covered
Then once it's there, you pay for the diagnostics to be done first - this may be claimable later
Once the diagnostics are done and the fault hopefully identified and it's not an item that is excluded from the warranty terms
The company will send out their own inspector/valuer
3 things can happen from here:
1) They accept the repair and the costs associated
2) They accept the repair but not the costs (hopefully shouldn't be your problem but may become your problem, personally I've never had this happen to me)
3) Denied

Sometimes if it's (1) or (2), you have to settle the whole bill first and then claim back after
Also, you get the diagnostic fee repaid once you give the warranty company the invoices after the repair is completed

Option 4 is if the fault is excluded from the warranty then you won't get the diagnostic fee back either
