I have an Orange branded Desire. In order to remove the branding and be able to install custom ROMs, is it literally as simple as using the Unrevoked tool? Or is there more to it? I'm slowly coming round to the idea of being bothered..
My new (replacement) Desire (HBoot 0.83) is all rooted and flashed
Steps I took:
1) Download Unrevoked and the AmonRa recovery image (I followed the links from the XDA thread I mentioned earlier).
2) Booted phone into recovery and checked for HBoot drivers (if you need to install them, the instructions are in the Unrevoked directory). I already had them installed (I've done this before).
3) Reboot phone,
but leave it unplugged.
4) Run Unrevoked. Go File > Custom... and select the AmonRa recovery image (should be an .img).
5) Connect phone. Unrevoked should do it's stuff.
6) Once installed, it leaves it at the recovery screen. I rebooted here and checked I had root access.
7) Reboot into AmonRa recovery, and make Nandroid backup of the (bloated) stock image.
8) Install latest radio image (5.09.00.20) and reboot to finish installation etc.
9) Once installed, rebooted into recovery, wiped, and installed OpenDesire (although I am probably going to go back to LeeDroid).
This is all on an Orange branded handset. I haven't sim unlocked it, but I assume it is locked to carrier as it came straight from Orange.
