*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Hi all,
sorry if this has been posted but with so many posts, i couldn't search everything.
I'm trying to do the 2.2 update, its downloaded it but says i don't have enough phone memory left. 19mb when 25mb is needed.
I only have a few apps installed, but does it mean i'll have to uninstall these to make room for the update? If so, that sucks. Can i then re-install my apps onto the 4gb micro SD card?

Thanks for any info.

yes if on 2.1 i think you need to uninstall. in 2.2 you have the option to move certain apps to SD. when you say you only have a few i bet some of them like google earth for example are quite large. if you view the selected apps it will show you the size, some are way to big and you can remove now then readd and with 2.2 a fair few will allow you to move to SD.

please correct me if im wrong.

Thank Jimlad, so if what you're saying is correct i just need to uninstall the bare minimum from the phone storage, enough to allow the 2.2 install. Then the new feature on the 2.2 will allow me to move the rest of the apps from that to the SD card?

If so, then great, thanks again. :)

just some of the non essential big ones.

>settings>applications>manage applications

it should show you how many mb's its using. for example adobe reader is 5mb, you only need to free up 6mb to get the update.

Err....ok, so what does it mean when it congratulates me for updating to 2.1.xxxx, then shows the locked screen, i swipe down to unlock it and all i get is a white screen with the green 'htc' on it.
Its been like that for 10 mins now. Not sure whether to reboot it or not.

any change?

looks like you may have to check for updates again

I just tried to install the Street View add-on and it keeps failing "installation unsuccessful" - running OD 4.0.15, anyone else had problems?

Oh, it's appearing in my complete list of installed applications, but I can't FC or clear data or such. Don't seem to have the ability to use it within maps either?

it comes installed in system/app

you need to remove system/app/Street.apk via ADB, then you can install updates.

same thing for Maps.apk if you want to update google maps from the market

google maps has always been dead slow on my desire, from the day i got it, through all the updates for phone and maps, its terribly slow.
My Touch Diamond was super fast for google maps, although it sucked in every other way.

Whenever I try to move my apps to the sd card it seems to corrupt the card. I get an error saying it has been mounted as read-only. No amount of mounting and unmounting will fix it and I have to format the card, losing my data and Spotify playlists.

Anybody else get this problem? I'd like to move some things over to the SD card and reclaim some space. Any ideas how to fix?

sounds like the card has gone fruity, i had this on a blackberry, likewise behaviour, snapped it in two out of anger and all was well with the new one :D

Actually Fourstar, have you any link I can follow to look up on this?
Here is the thread on XDA developers.

The info is all in comments as the help page was withdrawn with the software.

All the talk on S-OFF is effectively "Safety Off" mode which allows writing to the boot and system folders (or are they partitions in Android?) while not in recovery. Only relevant to CDMA (US/Japan/some other places) networks at the moment though they claim to have a working method for GSM on the way.

Thanks.

This might be a stupid question: and it probably is, but anyway. If I eventually root my phone (looking likely soon with Unrevoked), what situation exactly do I put my phone in in terms of software updates (Android)? Can I carry on getting OTA system updates as and when (ok I'm sure they are less frequent now then they were when I had my Magic), or will I need to flash it with an updated image?
