What film did you watch last night?

Prometheus on channel four, i decided to give it another go.
It is indeed still awful.

I did the same, and I agree that it is still terrible. So many people doing so many dumb things. Trained scientists who are clueless and stupid, putting themselves and everyone else at risk every few minutes. You're actually rooting for all the aliens to kill off the unlikeable characters to put you and them out of the film's misery.

Lindelhof or whatever that daemon's name is, seems to generate scripts on the premise that it will all be explained later. Or that there isn't a valid explanation.
Conceptually the film is fine, the engineers are fine, the spaceships, the secret facility, the bioweapons etc, all good.
The aliens are awful. Some you can attempt to tangibly explain, others not so much.

The film needed to do more than be an explosive with small amount of aliens blockbuster, it didn't. Even if you skip over the plotholes as you know there are there, there is still too much of a mess.

I do actually hope they make pro2, and give us a good reasoning behind all the terribly awfulness in this one.

Snap. First time in the cinema and hated it. Gave it a second go.

But nope, still just as bad as I first thought. They clearly intended it to be "deep", but tried to do that by having as incomprehensible a "plot" as you can imagine.

Also many scenes feature terrible acting, characters act in utterly imbecilic ways, and... well, it's just awful (still!).

4/10

In regards to Prometheus, if they'd left in just one small scene prior, it wouldn't have seemed so silly when Millburn went to handle the snake.

Can't forgive running away from the derelict in a straight line though.

Prometheus is a bad film, and it's only made worse by the fact that it's intended to exist as part of the same world as Alien and Aliens, both of which are among the best films ever.

Spooks: The Greater Good (2015)

It is a good film that does what it sets out to do, and does it well. However, it doesn't really feel like Spooks, and isn't as prominent in scale or thrills when compared to the other big Hollywood spy blockbusters. Plenty of double agents and intrigue, but the overall story isn't that strong, and the cast are weak imitations of the show’s usual characters.

7/10

Finally got round to watching Silver Linings Playbook. Awesome and intense performances from Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. Both of them are just magnetic on-screen, and even Robert De Nero looks dull by comparison.

Not that I've heard, if you can find a link then I'm all ears. ;)
Guardian article but can't link because it has swearies
Chris Kyle, a US navy Seal from Texas, was deployed to Iraq in 2003 and claimed to have killed more than 255 people during his six-year military career. In his memoir, Kyle reportedly described killing as “fun”, something he “loved”; he was unwavering in his belief that everyone he shot was a “bad guy”. “I hate the damn savages,” he wrote. “I couldn’t give a flying **** about the Iraqis.” He bragged about murdering looters during Hurricane Katrina, though that was never substantiated.

Well I thought the same, about going on to make a sequel, but actually employing a writer who is capable of writing a good script. I thought if they do that, then Scott has a chance at making a half decent film. That was until I found out that they replaced Lindelof with the guy who wrote the script for Green Lantern. It appears that filming was delayed due to so many changes to the script. That part is probably less surprising.

Do these people never learn? If you hire useless writers, you get useless scripts.

What's worse is that Michael Green (Green Lantern) is also involved in writing the script for Blade Runner 2.

Can't say I have much hope for either film, at this time.

Unbroken - 7/10

Put watching this film off for a while, as the trailer didn't really entice me. But it was well worth a watch.

Also watched this at the weekend, excellent film but a few continuity errors really broke the immersion.

Mainly they survive a month at sea and you never see them drinking fresh water or having a supply. Also a total lack of stubble on two of the survivors while at sea apart from the moustache/goatee area.

It Follows

Being a horror fan I was massively looking forward to this as so many people were saying how great it was. Massive disappoint. :( Not scary at all, and not well acted or directed.

Fast & furious 7

4/10

Ridiculously cheesy, cliched and over the top. They had a decent bad guy in Jason Stathem yet he was overshadowed so much by all the teamfapping he was hardly in it.

Expect the next one in this never-ending ridiculously cheesy, cliched and over the top cash-cow soon.

Four Lions - Fantastically funny and sad film from Chris Morris (Brass Eye) about a group of Muslim terrorists from Sheffield. Had not seen it since it came out and still found it good. 4/5

I'm pretty sure if I went a month without shaving I would only have a pathetic tash and some chin stubble. (I'm 21 and clearly not a real man yet :p;))
