What film did you watch last night?

Rose tinted specs. The originals are just as bad as the prequels, it works, but taken alone they are all pretty poor movies.

i really have disagree with that (and millions others also will).
the originals weren't perfect but the prequels are a masterclass on how to make bad films - the script/acting/story/directing are all amateur and often embarrassing.

i don't understand how people can't see the difference - the originals are loved 30 years later for many good reasons - that just doesn't happen to bad films.

Yep, I watched attack of the clones on Star Wars day and that's dire, just really bad.

Spooks - The Greater Good (2015)

Ultimately it's an extended TV episode with a limited budget but as long as you don't expect an action movie it's very good. 7/10

Struggling to find films that are my cup of tea I decided to have a look at what some regard as the best documentaries in the last few years:

Blood Brother (2013)

JfDMR1D.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2265179/reference

Blood Brother is an intimate portrait of Rocky Braat, a young man who longed to find a family. He didn't know it, but this desire would lead him to an AIDS hostel in India, a place of unspeakable hardship, where he would find almost more love and need than he could bear.

A truly harrowing documentary that will tear out your heart and stamp on it, but also inspire you and seed hope that even a single individual can make a HUGE difference to the unbearable pain and suffering in the world!

Fantastic, but bring the Kleenex
8.9/10

The Kill Team (2013)

DxeXmkQ.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2732932/reference

A documentary that unveils the moral tensions that tear at soldiers' psyches through the lens of one highly personal story: Private Adam Winfield was a 21-year-old soldier in Afghanistan when he attempted with the help of his father to alert the military to heinous war crimes his platoon was committing. But Winfield's pleas went unheeded. Left on his own and with threats to his life, Private Winfield was himself drawn into the moral abyss, forced to make a split-second decision that would change his life forever.

A brutal and worrying film about one of the many ugly sides to war and conflicts!

Highly recommended
8.6/10

The Overnighters (2014)

Broken, desperate men chase their dreams and run from their demons in the North Dakota oil fields. A local Pastor risks everything to help them

An expertly filmed and produced documentary that will take you on a roller-coaster of emotions and moral philosophy, highly recommended.

Highly recommended
8.8/10

I think it was accurate to his book but it's been widely claimed that the book (and therefore himself too) aren't exactly truthful in a lot of areas (like his claim of shooting 30 looters during Hurricane Katrina ). The movie also has quite a few "based on a true story" liberties too when compared to both the book and IRL.

Saw american sniper the other day and it was quite good. 6.5 / 10 is probably fair. Didn't feel like it was propaganda at all. If that made you want to sign up then there is something wrong with you.

Watched Spiderman 3 just now and dear lord is it complete dross. 3/10 and that is being generous. Throughout the film they sink to new lows of cringyness. It just painful and doesn't make sense 90% of the time.

Fast and furious 7

7/10 as a popcorn flick, crazy crazy over the top action.

The end tribute to Paul almost got me. :(

Won't be the same without him.

Prometheus on channel four, i decided to give it another go.
It is indeed still awful.
Lindelhof or whatever that daemon's name is, seems to generate scripts on the premise that it will all be explained later. Or that there isn't a valid explanation.
Conceptually the film is fine, the engineers are fine, the spaceships, the secret facility, the bioweapons etc, all good.
The aliens are awful. Some you can attempt to tangibly explain, others not so much.

The film needed to do more than be an explosive with small amount of aliens blockbuster, it didn't. Even if you skip over the plotholes as you know there are there, there is still too much of a mess.

I do actually hope they make pro2, and give us a good reasoning behind all the terribly awfulness in this one.
