Samsung NC10

I put the 2GB PNY ram but system feels less responsive, memory running at 333.5 (x2) 667mhz.

Also noticed a click now and then come from netbook, hope this aint a HDD issue :(

Well i aint running anything on netbook yet but i would expect to run office 2007 (few) maybe XL, few FF, media player and maybe some else. Since W7 uses around 530mb of the ram and video takes 128mb... hope this gives u an idea

yes but if i had 1 gb of ram then does not leave me much left. any ways its recommened vista/w7 to have 2GB of ram. 1GB works fine but i think 2gb is right for me

I have set the onboard video adapter to use 256mb RAM and the effect is definitely noticeable. I'd only recommend this with 2Gb RAM installed, however.

2Gb doesn't make the system feel any more immediately responsive, but when running multiple apps there is no slowdown, whereas there definitely was with 1Gb.

How did you set the onboard video adapter to use 256mb RAM??

How did you set the onboard video adapter to use 256mb RAM??

  • Press F2 at boot to enter BIOS
  • Turn on CAPS LOCK
  • Turn on SCROLL LOCK and NUM LOCK (fn+f11 and fn+f12)
  • Turn off CAPS LOCK
  • Move left and right a bit with the arrow keys
  • A new tab called INTEL will appear

The graphics memory can be set on that new Intel tab. Exactly what the setting is called escapes me, but it should be fairly obvious.

Cheers, I'm in, I take it you changed the Total Graphics Memory option to MaxDVMT and then the DVMT Graphics Memory option to 216MB??
Did is worth changing any of the other values in the Intel option to makes things better or just best to leave well alone??
Cheers.

That sounds about right, yep :). I didn't change anything else, but you can also change active/passive cooling threshold temperatures there if I recall correctly.

i'll try and set 256mb, i did play about with the menu yesterday night

It made a big difference for me, especially watching Youtube/iPlayer etc. See how you go, you can always change it back otherwise :)

Well my NC10 should be here in a few hours. :)

Got a couple of last minute panic induced questionss about the W7 installation though.

As I don't have a USB DVD drive, I'm going to be installing from a USB hard drive.

Do I need to extract the contents of the ISO and run it? or do I have to mount the ISO and run it?

If I need to extract the contents, does it need to be an empty drive apart from the installer files? or can I bundle them into a separate folder?

Thanks again! :)

Mounting worked for me on 7068 build, extracting and running setup.exe did not workin - kept showing the install W7 screen .
