Samsung NC10

The drivers are fine....every driver is available - just use the Vista ones and it works. If you could not find the drivers then you didn't read this thread proeprly as all links and info are in it!

Found the answer to restore, press f4 after bios.

Now need some help, I want to install 2 OS so that means i want 3 Partition on my nc10.

Say 60GB C: for Windows7 and 40GB D:for OS;) and rest E: for files.

What application can i use to manage boot?

Will windows 7 allow me to make partitions?

Can i have windows 7 as C: and OS;) as D:?

Would appreciate answers for this please

Thank you

I installed Windows 7 just by running the setup files from the desktop of XP and I don't use any special programs to dual boot.
See here for some more info.

Here's what I did for a W7 7075 install:

• Easy Battery Manager & Easy Display Manager from X360-34P – run as Admin.

• Synaptic Vista x86 driver – run as Admin.

• Realtek HD Sound Drivers for Vista

• Marvell Yukon Ethernet controller Vista x86 driver
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?driverId=101

BIOS:
• Under BOOT:
o Wireless card to “Last used”
o Brightness to “user control”

Windows 7:
• Wireless adapter setting under Power Settings to “Max Performance” for battery & power.
• Mobility centre – disable auto-dimming (buggy in W7)
• Display manager – W7 manages sound (not Samsung software).

Argh, is the Samsung warranty phone only (like can I not just fill out a form online and do it via e-mail?)

NC10 seems to have an issue where the screen "wobbles" if the lid is moved (ie the display picture wobbles if you open or close the lid a bit).

I never installed display drivers on mine, only the Display Manager software.

By all means give the XP ones a try, use compat mode and run as Admin to give them the best chance of working.

that standard display drivers are pretty good but i'm sure if there was proper intel drivers it would be much better

I picked up a white NC10 today. After looking at a lot of netbooks I'd decided that the NC10 was the one which suited me most for the following reasons:

1) Some other netbooks have a resolution of 1024x576. This has the more standard 1024x600 and at this size every pixel counts.

2) I wanted an Atom processor because of the hyperthreading. I'm going to try doing some occasional Java development on train journeys and the toolsets I'd use (written in Java) are very thread aware.

3) It has the best keyboard out of all the netbooks I tried. This is both in tactile feel and also in the actual configuration. In partiucular I use the page up and down keys a lot and this is one of the few machines that has these keys in the right place and without having to press a function key. It's the only keyboard of the netbooks that I was comfortable on from the start.

4) Long battery life.

5) Matt screen. The glossy ones have more vibrant colours but I find them a pain to see in certain light.

I'll be commenting on how good it is (or not) for Java development over the next few days. It's not a problem if it can't cope as I do have other machines and a larger laptop. So it would be nice for it to be usable but not essential. It will take me a while to get Eclipse and the other toolsets installed.

I was ideally looking to get a black one. But I got this from the mm and of course had less choice over colour. I hadn't been able to see a white one in a shop previously. However, I'm really starting to love the white. I think I probably now prefer it. The case is a nice pearlescant colour and I love the white keys as they are easier to see in low light.

A few negative points so far, all of which I knew before getting it of course:

1) You can't (yet) boot from the SD card slot.

2) The hinges on the lid are not as stiff as I'd like. I'm used to Thinkpads which are very firm and necessary for commuting on a train while working. But on the train tonight the hinges seemed to be sufficient to hold it firmly in place.

3) The inbuilt speakers are dire. Really dire. Not that I'm bothered as I won't be using them much. But I have seen people elsewhere replacing them so I may consider that.

4) The screen is low resolution. Obviously! It's not a laptop replacement. The NC20 would definitely be more comfortable. But I wanted something I could put in my gym bag without too much extra bulk or weight. Daily I often carry a work laptop too so size and weight are important to me.

5) There is no internal HSDPA (you can now get them with this but the cost is prohibitive). I'm not bothered because I will be tethering it to my phone with bluetooth.

I have a 2gb module on the way. I've read conflicting reports of whether it makes much difference due to the bottleneck of the processor. But because of the potential for me to do Java development I thought I'd get it anyway.

Longer term I will probably migrate to an internal SSD when prices fall (and put this HDD in an external caddy). But it's fine for now.

So far I'm loving it and loving the white :)

EDIT: I've just checked out Quakelive. I was playing fullscreen 800x600, mostly low settings, fov 110, picmip 10 (very low quality). On a small FFA DM map it was playable. On a large busy CTF map it was quite a bit slower; certainly not how I'd like to play, but actually better than I expected. It could be a good laugh in a net cafe. I did try tethering it to my phone to see if I could play completely remotely but I think O2 must block that port because it wouldn't connect unless I used my wifi.

Hey Geforce, i tried installing with no joy mate. I didnt see any benefit of Easy Battery Manager & Easy Display Manager, in XP they had their own icon and let you manage the device.

lets hope display drivers get released ,Fingers crossed!

Hades I got mine yesterday and had it updated with officed installed and today installed Windows 7, much faster OS and pretty :D

I actually wanted the Advent 4213 but after playing with the keyboard at currys i was put off, I dont mind the fat there is no SIm card support, My nokia n95-8GB can be made into wifi access point which the laptop can connect or i can use usb :D

But the samsung has great batty, looks very nice and feels soild. me happy bunny especially cos i paid £230 from some guy who got it free with Orange internet contract, I even got the reciept lol

All he did was open the box, windows was not even setup. did spend 15 on some PNY DDR2 800mhz

I've had a few random freeze ups/crashes occasionally, no blue screens though, im not sure what's the cause, could it be faulty hardware or just xp playing up or something?

Im thinking of doing a fresh install of xp, would it be better to use the recovery partition or make a bootable usb stick with xp on? was considering doing a dual boot with ubuntu as well but i would prefer the easiest way tbh, i do have a bit of concern though whether its possible that the recovery partition is safe from infection just in case i have picked up something thats the cause of the crashes, should i wipe the drive or would that be pointless?

Anyone used one of the Sweex neoprene cases? I've got an Incase zipped sleeve for my MacBook, want something similar for my NC10.
