Disgusting, but well played.
I think doing it one of is not disgusting. Also I sold to a business and not an individual. Now if I kept buying it and selling over and over like a scalper then you may have a point. If I was that way inclined I would have not cancelled my pre order here at ocuk which was very low number in the queue once I secured my fe. Could have easily flipped that for a couple of hundred profit back then :)

I meant disgusting in the sense that anyone would pay so much for a 3080 considering the performance it offers.
£1600 is disgusting for 3080 level of performance no matter who is buying it, not that I blame anyone for cashing in though.

Fair enough. I reckon the same can be said about the 3090, 6900XT and Titan cards at their rrp personally.

I think the 6900 XT RRP is okay, trouble is buying one at that price only way via AMD store and they are not shipping to UK atm.

When shipping becomes available to UK again, £846+£12 shipping is a decent price for top tier performance.

The 6800 XT RRP is £300 cheaper which is a lot for the extra performance (up to 12%) but when you compare the 3080 FE RRP vs the 3090 FE RRP (£650 vs £1400) then it puts it more into perspective.

*Strokes £650 3080* (well actually technically it was only about £320 after I sold the vega 56, a 290 and COD on) :p It's a shame AMD didn't have a better handle on their stock and pricing situation but alas, that is what happens when you have to supply 80% of your hardware to the consoles and **** all control or rather a **** poor site which allowed "bots" to easily get the cards for MSRP....

Was tempted to sell the 3080 to cex at those crazy prices but money would have just sat in the bank doing nothing else, that and been some epic games so far with more to come later in the year, mainly dying light 2.... Personally can't see myself upgrading for about another 2 years, don't mind when the time comes to having to turn down a couple of settings to maintain 60+ fps, but with dlss being added to more games and engines these days and whatever the "open source" solution happens to be, I can see nvidia and amd cards having more/better longevity going forward.

Yeah but Sony helped design RDNA. So if AMD ignored consoles completely, they wouldn`t have a GPU to compete with NVidia anyway.

Yeah, I really want to play Dying Light 2 also. That and Bloodlines 2. But both got delayed many times and the Dying Light 2 announcement never happened until a few days after I sold. Not that it would have made a difference, not turning my nose up to a four figure profit over one game :p

I will probably pick up some kind of temp card to play it if at the time I get the urge. It is 6 months away after all.

To be fair if I had a bunch of games I wanted to play still I may have kept it, but after finishing Resident Evil Village there was not much left.

Dying Light 2 had better be as good as the first tbh. Been waiting a long time for this but the first one is one of my fave picks of the last 5 years or so. 100 hours in and still not finished The Following but I've rarely had as much fun in a game just messing around and testing things outside of the missions.

In the meantime, far as zombie things go, RE2 and RE7 were fantastic. I just got Days Gone as a breaking in game for the new PC (3 days until arrival now plus a few to customise test and set up... let's say next weekend)
Other big names on the wishlist are Warhammer 3 (preordered) and currently deciding on either HZD and RDR2, both £40 or under atm. RE Village and ME Legendary Edition (at £65 and £55 respectively) will need decent discounts before I'm buying, especially the latter as I have access to the originals anyway which I could pep up via mods aso.

Yeah I really enjoyed Dying Light. I may actually replay it again at some point before the release of Dying Light 2. From the way they are describing it it sounds like it would be much better. But I am keeping my expectations in check after Cyberpunk 2077 which is a game I enjoyed but ultimately looking back failed to match my expectations.

I really want a game where my actions have a big impact on the world and the narrative. Hopefully this delivers.

Get the 16Gb cards @TNA and you should be rid of this issue! ;)

Even a 12GB 3060 TI/6700 XT would be an upgrade!

Hehe :D

I would grab a 6700 XT in a heart beat if they were available at MSRP. Would be a nice upgrade over the RX 580 in my partners machine. Would suit the 165hz Freesync 2 1440p monitor for that PC too. Although it is meant to do Gsync also, but I have never tried that.

Thing is by the time a 6700 XT can be had at MSRP we won't be too far away from next gen cards.

Hehe, just playing.

Time to come back to the dark side TNA. :)

But in other news I've just had a nice cash windfall, so upgraded my 3080 for a 6700 XT Merc. :p ;)

I replied to Grim's usual justification for buying a 3090 with a couple of simple quetions...

UE5 seems to be doing quite well with its usage and that's before optimisation. What do you see using more VRAM in the next 1-2 years?

What do you consider the average amount of VRAM to be today and why would it explode in the next 1-2 years? There are a lot of people still using 1060 level hardware according to Steam's hardware survey.

I do expect to upgrade to Lovelace/RDNA3 due to lack of GPU grunt mostly centred around raytracing. That also means that the 3090 owners will also have to upgrade, which is why I settled for a £720 3080 ;)

Sadly, RDNA2 cards are already lacking today due to the budgets placed by consoles. Lumen running software rendering looks good, but can't touch hardware raytracing. And of course there is the Tensor backed DLSS that RDNA2 has still to compete with as we approach 8months since launch.

So far no reply from Grim and so to every other naysayer.... Focusing only on VRAM, ignoring GPU grunt, why arent 10GB cards going to do well 1-2 years from now?

I don’t think I play any game at max settings on my 3080 as to me more frames is more noticeable than slight increase in graphics quality.
I don’t mind dropping texture detail by one notch if needed.
Again I would rather have more performance than more vram.

Depends on what resolution your playing at. I recall Jensen in his showcase at launch where a handful of gaming peeps were all playing 8k and milking the hype. We dont have any titles that seem to be your requested Achilles heel you seek, although my guess will be its coming. It needs to be a game that doesnt favour AMD but also isnt sponsored by nvidia so they can rig the results. One thing is for sure, if your playing at 1080p or 1440 its not going to present itself.

Different folks different stokes, I like pretty graphics more than performance and that's partially because these days I play all my games with a controller and extra frames above 60fps make little difference at all to the experience unless using a mouse so I rather put the gpu grunt into something more tangible for me like graphics.

so for reference, I now play most games with the frame capped to 60fps, TV set to 120hz refresh and Gsync enabled - that for me is the best balance, I don't "feel" any improvement from going over 60fps with the above settings so I don't turn down settings to say run at 80fps or 90fps
