12GB vram enough for 4K? Discuss..

None of the current consoles are anywhere near even a 3060, actually closer to a 2070 but I actually think even less than that in real world.

Consoles do a very good job for their use and cost compared to a PC with same specs. I honestly think this year they should have pushed a PS5 Pro with 2x the performance of the PS5 as they did with PS4 and PS4 Pro. If the world was not in such a mess with inflation and high costs of living we may of had one this year but guessing this generation may never get a Pro device and just jump to PS6.. We will see I hope they do make a PS5 Pro and a new design that doesn't look like this current model and more PS4 Pro like and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Sony will launch the PS5 Pro in April 2023 with liquid cooling!

Yea I doubt it. Don't think they would like the bad press from all the headlines of my PS5 leaked and ruined my expensive so and so stories that would inevitably come out.

I call pure BS

A ps5 pro today wouldn't be much faster than the existing ps5. And according to Tom Henderson who is actually a reliable source of Sony leaks, he says Sony is focused on cost cutting and it does not intend on supporting more than one console at a time that's why it's launching a slim to replace both of the current SKUs and it does not intend on also having a pro this generation. Tom says Sonynis working on the PS6 but no ps5 pro is in development

Had a go of Forspoken demo and boy it is worse than FC6 if that was even possible. The graphics don't look nothing like what they advertised. Then you have the annoying script and voice acting. Only thing that was good about it was instant loading.

Great news though guys, it had no problems running on 12GB :D

As Easyrider used to say.

Next...

I didn't read it and I'm not going to, but I can assume they are doing either:
  • Using liquid metal TIM with standard air/fan cooling (not much benefit IMHO*)
  • Using the equivalent of an AIO liquid cooler for the CPU/GPU/both (more benefit but also more cost)
  • Both of the above
*when you control the entire circuit board and cooler design there are easier and more effective ways to increase cooling capacity.

I don't think that's much of a risk, how often do AIO coolers for desktop CPUs leak? Very rarely, even the cheapo ones as far as I'm aware?

Say they sell 1 million and 0.01% leak. That is still 100 people of which some will scream and make a huge deal about and it will be in the press. I just think they would not want that bad press. But who knows maybe they go in that direction. Certainly would be cool.

No PC prerelease copies have been sent out to reviewers, probably going to be another shoddy PC port.

Regardless of the quality of the game its going to be interesting to see what kind of a difference direct storage makes, if any

Well reviews are out now and well sadly the game can be a shoddy pc port and that's not even the main problem with it, but a terrible game and at a silly price to add... What a bad joke really..

Has anyone tested it at 4K to see if it uses more than 12GB? At 3440x1440 I saw allocated at around 10GB. But did not look to see what it was actually using in the demo.

Not sure if it matter anyway, the game is so badly optimised you probably would want to use FSR/DLSS anyway, at which point 12GB is plenty. That's if you like to torture yourself and play the game in the first place that is

They tried to sell this pile of rubbish as the new cyberpunk or crysis with the specs of directstorage enabled and high specs like high vram required and blaa blaa but they forgot one important thing the game sucks and not sure who they had do the dialogue because sounds like a spoiled brat wrote it and the game itself is nothing new same same rubbish of running around and hitting the attack button.. We have seen this type of game many times and many times they fail and have no attraction to come back and play again.. For the silly price they are having a laugh it's not even worth half the price..

Computerbase: Dead Space Remake in the test: benchmarks (FHD, WQHD & UHD), frame times and VRAM

https://www.computerbase.de/2023-01/dead-space-remake-benchmark-test/3/

VRAM: With 12GB, gamers are safe

From a graphics card with 12 GB, players are always on the safe side, regardless of whether Ultra HD, ray tracing or changing graphics options are used.

Even with 10 GB, all resolutions and quality settings can be played very well, but the graphics card then works at the limit as far as the VRAM is concerned. If you then change a graphics option that affects memory, Dead Space Remake falters massively - showing that data has to be moved back and forth to make the 10 GB sufficient again. It cannot be ruled out that problems will arise if the game is played for a longer period of time.

If you have a graphics card with 8 GB VRAM, you can get along very well with all options up to and including WQHD.

10GB? Better tell him he's got a local system error :p

Wait a second so he says 10gb may be a problem but then proceeds on to say this:

It's not very clear this bit, so if you don't restart the game when changing graphics (which you should be doing anyway) you may face issues because of the ways graphics are changed? They then go onto say that "it cannot be ruled" out i.e. we haven't actually seen/experienced any issues with this yet but if you play for longer you might......

Their benchmark doesn't show any issues either.....

Chances are if there is a genuine issue when new assets need to be swapped/loaded in/dumped then if the developers have done a good job, you'll see maybe a frame spike/frame latency up/down for about a second or 2 i.e. it won't **** the bed like fc 6 at 4k with rebar forced, max settings and no fsr where fps drops to single digits to never return back again

BTW what happened to forpsoken???

Obviously a fake benchmark - we all know that the 7900XTX shouldn't match a 4080 in RT ;)
No one has shared this graph, but if you disable blurry DLSS/FSR and run native, the (power limited and throttling) XTX is actually 8%+ faster than the 4080 at 4K native with RT.

With an AIB XTX you can and will see much better numbers than that, I'll put a video up soon don't worry. :)

Basically as you play at 3440x1440 you are safe even with 10GB. Not that it matters, even if you played at 4K you would need DLSS which would mean running at a lower resolution anyway

As for Forspoken, the less the spoken the better. Lol.

Tommy should remove it from the OP

The state of the GPU market really is lol worthy. The 4080 really is a turd of a card, and here you got AMD users getting a boner at being able to match it.

Just imagine had AMD priced the card well, you would have had loads of people here on your team with their 7900 XTX. Instead I keep seeing people buying 4080's which has got to be up there as one of the most slated cards.
