Just ordered 2 x5650's, when over clocking what would you call the max volts to use on air.
lol
What a faff!

My 5670 was 88 quid and the pro is that 4.4ghz can be done at 200 bclk which most boards are ok with.

Nice....I'm inthe process of selling off my x58 rig...
So the Xeon 5650 is roughly the same performance as the i7 5820k ?
Been thinking about upgrading my 5 year old i5 750 to something that will last another 5 years minimum ... the only upgrade I think that would be worth the cash would be the i7 5820k but it is so expensive and over my budget.
I would be interested.

Thanks for the input. My mobo is an Asus P6T Deluxe, currently running a i920. From memory, the highest bclk I've managed is 205 (I'll have to check my old notes), but the current CPU tops out at 3.8.
Anyone know if the P6T Deluxe allows x22 multi to be selected with a x5650? 22x 200 would suit me fine!
X5650 are currently available as 'buy now' for less than £50, but I haven't seen a x5670 go for less than £85, and x5660 don't seem to come up as often as the other 2. Not sure it is worth an extra £40 to go higher than a x5650.
Yeah most 149 it was a no go for me....It was either a cheap upgrade or whole new system.
and extra 100 quid for 400mhz is not worth it for me.
Well technically it's an additional 2.4Ghz worth of power.
400mhz over a 5650 I said
You can select 22x but it won't stay above 20x for very long. Google "p6t turbo throttling" for details. Thanks for the input. My mobo is an Asus P6T Deluxe, currently running a i920. Cant see x58 lasting 5 years
I7 1155 or 2011 if your wanting a system that will last.
The 5650 is the same clock for clock but they tend to max at 3.8-4.2 where the newer stuff is hetting 5hgz, so there the same clock for clock but there getting out clocked
But in practical terms though who cares if you are "outclocked"?
In terms of day to day use 6 cores @ 4GHz is a hell of a lot of compute power for a personal machine. I can't really see the demand for more in the next 2 years at least
There are other benefits to upgrading on the horizon if they matter to your use case, but I would argue it has little to do with needing more compute power (for the vast majority of users anyhow).
