14th Gen "Raptor Lake Refresh"

decided to pull the trigger on a 14700kf...should be here by tonight ;)
I got a 14700KF from here and it's a bit of a dud. Memory will not go past 3800 15-15-15-28-2T no matter what settings and the default core clocks require 1.3v to be stress test/game stable.
My 12600KF memory OC to 4000 16-17-17-28-1T with out issue. I'm hoping a future BIOS will help but I'm not getting my hopes up.
My system

Asus Z690 TUF D4 Wifi BIOS 2802
2x8GB 3200 CL14 B Die
360 AIO

Voltges for my memory OC are

SA 1.1v
Vram 1.5v
VDDQ 1.3v

looking at the settings you would think there is some headroom. Will be interesting to hear your experience.

I think Jayz2cents was saying that DDR4 on these chips is a bit weird, results not as good as DDR5 not sure why.

Intel has turned FPS gains into FFS with the 14th gen:

Although the minimum FPS gains are a bit better:

13900k, 14900k are identical performance wise to Zen4xd in games. No human could tell them apart in a blind test. AM5 is the better platform at this point in time though.

Only thing Intel wins at is idle/low power usage, where it's around 25w lower than Zen4, hoping AMD can fix that with Zen5.

The G-skill 7200Mhz CL34 is a decent enough kit and can be had for £150

I disagree when these are the latest shiny shiny :D:p

:o

yeah that is a nice kit but may be a bit if hassle trying to get it to run at full speed on a 4 dimm Z790 board ( non refresh ) The price will also be eyewatering i imagine at the same price as the 14900k  but yeah will be rapid for sure, you done a buy yet ? :D picked up a 14th gen and new Apex or waiting for the KS ?

TBH They are not that offensive, compared to what I thought they would be. Ja, you have little to zero chance of getting 8000+ working on a 2DPC board and XMP doesn't always work getting up that high so it needs a bit of tweaking. Not sure about picking them up as I have already pushed way past that on my 8200 sticks but you never know :p

I'll pick up a 14900K at some point, as I just sold my 13900K and I'll also pick up an Encore when there is stock. As it may be time to retire my EVGA Z790 Dark :(

looks like the sa voltage is high as per usual on msi motherboards, and idea of what voltages to tweak to get some lower power usage

Yeah that is too high for stock mem. Your in Gear 1 so I'd start at 1.3v and test for stability and if stable then you can try lowering it, if not then bump it up incrementally.

What is your VDDQ?

Who the hell games at 1280x720 on a high end CPU?

Well after a couple of days testing this 14900KF is I now cannot run my DDR4 Ram at 3800mhz gear 1 when I could with my 12900K, So much rubbish going around saying these 14th gen have better ram support and better IMC's is ********, I have tried as high as 1.3v VCCSA I only needed 1.15v on my 12900K.

My E core SP is the worst I have seen so far so bad that's it's 60! My P core SP is better at 108 so that's a bonus but all in all, Crap IMC, Crap E core SP and I have to lock this thing at 253w and not using multicore enhancement as it thermal throttles with Cinebench on 1 or 2 cores lol, And I am guessing this is because of the **** E Cores.

The chip is a hot mess when you go past Intels PL limits, This is on a 360 AIO with decent Vcore voltages too as my P core rating is average or better I think.

Moral of the story is don't bother buying a K variant because you won't get anything extra out of it or you won't be able to cool it lol, Intel really are winding people up the "K Unlocked" signature on 14th gen lol.
