2008 Canadian Grand Prix - Race 7/18

Anybody know what sort of a penalty Hamilton is going to get? Hopefully it's not championship points  And i assume the same penalty will be applied to rosberg

I would imagine that a 10 grid places in the next race would be the most severe penalty for that sort of incident. Rosberg would probably just say that he was just following hamilton and couldn't see the stopped cars!

edit: A finnish site is reporting that both hamilton and rosberg will receive a 10 place grid penalty for the next race.

Hamilton
Very dissapointing. His mistake cost himself and Kimi the race. Its a good thing he took out his main WDC competitor otherwise, he wouldve been well dissapointed. Pit lane activity is clearly his weakness. Lets hope he learns from his Chinese GP and Canadian GP mistakes.

Alonso
Very very dissapointing. Thats 2 races in a row where he has ended up crashing out. I have a feeling that he is setting his car up for speed and not drivability, which is making it difficult for him to drive off the driving line.

I do still rate him as the best driver in F1, but its marginal now.

Piquet
Piquet is being made to look very ordinary, by Alonso who is showing fantastic pace, but poor (driving) reliability. Had Piquet been partnered with someone else, I'm sure he wouldnt look so bad, but his job is on the line courtesy of Alonso.

I think he has to go now and another driver should get an opportunity.

Heikki
I see that Heikki pulled out yet another stonker. He finished 9th and got overtaken by Massa. He was slow all weekend, while his team leader (who did make a mistake), was setting race-winning pace.

As per usual, Heikki gives another poor performance. He really doesnt deserve to be in a McLaren. For him to win in a race, he will need the best car and all the major contenders (including the BMWs) to fall off the track. I dont know how he is doing it, but he is actually getting worse as the season progresses; one would think that as he gets used to the car, he would get faster.

I really do feel that McLaren should give Vettel a chance for their No.2 car, as Heikki just isnt capable of racing at the sharp end.

I would love to see the excuse used this time. JRS, I'm gonna love to hear your Canadian GP excuse, for Heikki. :p

Heidfeld
A good solid, No.2 drive for BMW. He gave way for his team-leader to go past and kept a watchful eye on proceedings. Any No.2 driver should look at the way Heidfeld drove in this race. If Kubica had gone off, Heidfeld wouldve picked up the pieces. In a superior car, Heikki should be doing what Heidfeld did today.

Kubica
What can I say. He delivered the goods. Whenever I see him drive, he seems bullet proof. The guy doesnt make many mistakes and if he is driving the car fast, you know he is doing so without taking too many risks. If he has the best car under him, he WILL win the WDC. BMW must surely be a force to be reckoned with in the future and unlike J. Button (when he won a race with Honda), Kubica looks like the real deal.

The WDC is wide open, but I still feel its between Kimi and Hamilton.

Unbelievable.

Ferrari International Assistance, to the rescue.

Kimi slams into Sutil and the FIA look the other way. Hamilton slams into Kimi and the FIA are rubbing their hands. Perhaps the FIA felt that Hamilton was getting too strong and needed Kimi to get ahead of Hamilton in the WDC, at France.

It also puts out a message that nobody should dare mess with a Ferrari car.

Scandalous!!!

Well he shouldn't have done, if he's so great he wouldn't have, did Schumi or Senna ever do that (well by accident)

It was very unfair on Kimi had he could have taken Kubica as well

edit: sorry I can't write, but you know what I mean

There is a difference between locking your rear tyres and hitting someone and hitting a stationary car in the pitlane. If kimi/kubica weren't there hamilton would have been black flagged and kimi would have probably won the race.

One was a racing incident whilst this was an avoidable accident. Ploughing into a parked car deserves a penalty. Not very Senna-esque.

No - that comparison is not fair.

Nothing else could be done really. It could be a cracker of a race to see him come through the field.

Let's just hope he doesn't screw up his start like in Bahrain.

I am starting to accept the fact that LH can become a bit hot headed when it matters most. IMO what happened today was a combination of inexperience and hot headedness from thinking "damn I've just lost two positions in this pit stop!" He was thinking more about how he was going to get back to 1st than thinking about the SC and red light factors. The good thing is that, in time, LH will improve in these areas. He certainly isn't the first racing driver to go through this.

He should think long and hard about the next race as he cannot afford to not finish that race and really needs to be 2nd or 3rd if he doesn't want to start falling off the WDC race.

tbh alonso drove a storming race and is driving way beyond the car, its hardly his fault the brakes couldn't handle the punishment and that the marbles were soo bad thanks to the track surface

a very exciting race indeed shame massa was off on strategy otherwise i think he may have had a good podium finish

i'll bet trulli had a lot to say to glock about that mistake LOL :D

Gawd you sometimes talk a lot of rubbish  - tis a shame as sometimes you do have some good insight. You may want to consider writing for a Sunday tabloid or the Daily Mail in the future ;)

ps3ud0

Ferrari get penalties, Kimi at Monaco - tyres, both Japan - tyres.

Schoolboy errors like that deserve a penalty - Kimi could have won
