---2012 Nexus Phone facts/rumours/info thread---

Judge the phone after reviews imo, it could well be like last years Nexus and yet that's still one of the best phones available (minus the camera).

The engadget review said the 13megapix camera was really good, better then the s3/One X, and that it was just the software that sucked. Will be great to see what google offers, but whatever it is wont be worse then the GN.

GSMarena review of the LG optimus G is up and it looks very promising!

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_g-review-835.php

Although they say this about the audio:

with some of the cleanest output we have seen

However, you look at the figures etc. the one S has the better/cleaner audio than it

Although it is very close, so doesn't matter too much unless you're an audiophile :p

Camera seems good, but the S/X and GS 3 still seem to be better.

Screen sounds great as well.

LG uses a screen technology called Zerogap touch - basically a laminated screen so there's no air between the screen layers (which causes glare) and it uses in-cell touch technology. The top layer is Gorilla glass for protection. At the end of the day, the screen isn't the least reflective we've seen, but it's comparable to that of an iPhone 4/4S, so it does well enough in direct sunlight.

The viewing angles are good thanks to the IPS+ tech, but not without some color shift and contrast loss.

When we put the LG Optimus G side by side with the Galaxy S III and Optimus 4X HD it was clear that the Optimus 4X HD is inferior but the Optimus G has quite decent contrast for a non-AMOLED unit and actually has more accurate color rendering than the over-saturated AMOLED screen on the Galaxy S III. Overall, the image quality is nothing short of impressive.

Regarding performance:

The powerful S4 Pro chipset will make sure that you get as smooth a smartphone ride as you can possibly find. We are not just talking benchmark scores and bragging rights here - the LG Optimus G really moves around at the speed of your thought.

Battery life according to their test is very good, however, once again don't pay much attention to it as the S has the best battery life apart from the MAXX, note II etc. however, their test shows that the one X has great and better battery life than it, but as we all know it is pretty poor :p

Will be interesting to see how the battery, camera, performance and audio performs with stock android.

Why couldn't the LG nexus look just like the optimus G! :(

EDIT:

Got to say the LG software looks pretty good, although awful colour scheme :o It actually looks very similar to touchwiz . Noticed a bit of lag in some places, suspect this will be gone with JB though........

Also, that lockscreen and screen turning off animation is awesome! :D

They both look like large ugly slabs of plastic to me, the £200 Exynos 5 Chromebook from Google is more exciting than this. They should drop Chrome OS and stick Android 5 on it :p
(...and why is the £500+ Note 2 is powered ye old Exynos 4 again?)

hehe, but one slab of plastic is better looking than the other slab of plastic! :p ;) :D

Plus the back is glass :o :p

and that last part doesn't make much sense :p

^ does the optimus have an RGB led?

After a quick google, supposedly yes.

Bet you're happy ;) :p

On the topic of the Nexus 10:

Looks like this may be the first tablet we see with Samsung's A15 cores. Assuming it's Samsung that make it, they'll probably want to use one of their own processors, and I can imagine they definitely wouldn't want to stick a Tegra3 SoC in there. Now, if we assume the rumours about the 1600p resolution are true, then it can't be the Exynos 4412 as that can only support displays up to 800p, and it also can't be a Tegra3, as that maxes out somewhere around 1536p (so I guess it *could* be this, but would Samsung really want to manufacture a tablet using a competitor SoC?).

If it's not those, then could it be the first time we'll see the Exynos 5520 in a tablet? The SoC is definitely ready, as it's in the newly released chromebook.

Quite simply put, anything less than an Exynos 5520 wouldn't run content smoothly at that resolution. The Tegra3 SoC in the TF201 struggles to run some games at 1280*800, to the point that a lot of Gameloft "optimisation for Tegra3" updates for their games are actually them disabling certain effects.

I like the sound of the Samesung tablet as the resolution/PPI on current Android tablets is a joke. Unfortunately I've been spoilt by Asus' build quality on the TF201 and the keyboard dock (although that's the only positives I can think about for the TF201), where as the latest Samsung devices feel very cheap in hand.

The Note 10.1 feels like it would feel more at home on the shelves of Toys 'R Us, it feels that plastic, thin and cheap.

S4Pro? It's already in the LG Nexus phone so Google might prefer to use the same SoC across the Nexus range.

Ah yes, had completely overlooked that one! I guess it depends what price point they want the Nexus 10 to come in at. If they go for a the cheaper end (to match the Nexus 7's competitive price point), then maybe outing Samsung's newest flagship SoC wouldn't be the most logical idea.

We'll see soon enough :D

I think the Nexus 10 will be £325-£375. Under cut the ipad just a little.

I'd expect something like this. From the sounds of it it will be a very high end device, so there's no chance it will come out at bargain basement price, but if google really want to push this as the baseline for tablets (which is generally what the Nexus line serves to do) then it needs to be cheap enough to grab some extra attention.

(I can hope anyway!)

I don't think they'd be able to undercut the iPad with such specs. Can probably match it though.

If they follow the trend of the N7 and the Kindle HD line and sell them at break even(ish) price, then they'll easily be able to undercut the iPad prices. My guess is that it'll be at, or just below the standard 10" tablet price point though.

Whilst Asus might be willing to do that, I don't think Samsung are. It would cut into their higher margin tablets.

Yup doesn't the ipad cost like £150 to build or something - definitely much lower than the £400 asking price.

Wouldn't Samsung be sub contracted by Google? So Google make the pricing decision.

Depends what agreements they have in place with Google. What did the Galaxy Nexus cost when it was first released? I can't remember precisely, but it was a bit less than the usual release price wasn't it?

Nope it was a £400 phone. I bought in on contract on release and remember looking around to see if simfree worked out cheaper.

I still would find it hard to believe that Samsung would put their flagship chip and screen into a low margin product.

iPad 3 16GB Wifi cost $316 to make and they sell it for $499. Add VAT (additional cost Apple have to pay) onto the $316 and it's far above £150.
