---2012 Nexus Phone facts/rumours/info thread---

Nope it was a £400 phone. I bought in on contract on release and remember looking around to see if simfree worked out cheaper.

£100 less than the S2 and S3 on release then?

Still, google will have a fairly hefty amount of control over the tablet if it's being marketed as a Nexus device. If Samsung weren't okay with those requirements, they wouldn't agree to the deal. (Although obviously we have no idea exactly what those details are... yet.)

I still would find it hard to believe that Samsung would put their flagship chip and screen into a low margin product.

Think of it as Samsung putting their best in a hugely successful product. Making them the stand-out leader of droid tabs.

iPad 3 16GB Wifi cost $316 to make and they sell it for $499. Add VAT (additional cost Apple have to pay) onto the $316 and it's far above £150.

My point still stands - can sell it lower than £400 with no issues.

Well the S3 was certainly more but the Galaxy Nexus wasn't exactly cutting edge at launch. The screen was good but the SoC was behind the competition. S2 was something like £450 on launch from what I remember.

Also £400 is being conservative, it was certainly in the £400+ bracket.

Yep a £450+ phone on release the Galaxy Nexus.

rrp on the Galaxy Nexus was £500ish on launch. Just like every top-end smartphone.

Don't worry, I'm not trying to say that the Nexus will definitely come in and undercut the other tablets, I don't know enough about their strategy to say that. I just think it would make sense for them to do so.

Thanks Kona, clears that up for us :)

I'v decided if there is no 32gb option I am going to hold off buying one of these until there is. I suspect it maybe a similar deal to the Nexus 7 where a 32gb option will appear at some point in the future for a very reasonable price.

That's still £100 below typical launch prices, but I was hoping (ridiculously) for £299 after the rumoured $399 price was rumoured.

Who knows it might actually be $399 and we just get screwed by lack of conversion.

I predict anyone who gets this at launch is crazy, think the price will drop like a stone.

If it is truly 8gb and the galaxy nexus was the only other phone I would pick the galaxy purely on looks and GBs

No Joe average is going to want it
It's not the best hardware
It's only got 8gb

Why would you design a phone like this?

I just don't see the logic in them releasing without a 16GB option, because of that I think there'll be 8Gb and 16GB options, otherwise I can't see where sales are going to come from.

Still hoping for the price to be low enough on this that I can get out of the larger contracts and start buying the handset, using a sim-only contract.

£389.95 isn't a bad price tbh, was expecting at least £450, although 8GB is pure crap :p

Why do people keep saying not the best hardware!?!?!

- The CPU/GPU trumps everything, there is nothing better than the S4 quad, it makes the GS 3 and note II CPU/GPU look like a 3-4 year old CPU/GPU :p

- screen is supposedly better than iphone 5, one X and GS 3 although other places are saying not as good as the X or iphone 5 screen in terms of colours but still excellent

- audio for the optimus G is very good, so it should be the same for the nexus

- battery life is very good on the optimus G, not as good as the note II, RAZR HD etc. but it seems like it is better than the X, S, XL and GS 3 and that is with LG's software

Will have to wait and see what users are getting with standard usage though.

- camera is very good on the optimus G, 1080P video recording is better than the one S/X, photo quality according to some is better than the X/S and GS 3, although others have said the S/X and GS 3 is better still, will have to wait and see more reviews

Apart from the poor storage and poor design, what else could they do :p
