2012 Weight Loss Thread

You cant just look at your breakfast calories in isolation though (for me anyway).
I find that if i skip breakfast, i'm so hungry by lunchtime that i eat a huge amount more than i otherwise would.
So the extra few hundred calories in the morning actually saves me more than that later in the day.

Well that's because it's what your body is used to. If Rusty_Noob is used to not eating breakfast, he's fine to continue doing so. Personally I don't eat breakfast and don't find myself getting hungry until about 1230-1300, get up around 0800 and last meal is 2000 the night before.

Yes, i agree that it will be very different for each person.
Even though he is not used to eating breakfast, he might find that he is still compensating for missing it be eating more later on.
It might be worth trying eating breakfast for a few days and seeing if that makes it easier to cut down on how much more he eats through the day.

Because I've not eaten breakfast for years my body is used to waiting until lunchtime, normally 12 o'clock, that I don't get hungry beforehand. I've been losing weight throughout 2011 and my lunch is strict.

Basically I'm asking should I have it as an addition to my current diet plan as a breakfast, or would I be better without anything at all.

Fit your diet/exercise around your lifestyle. It's the only way you'll remain consistent and patient which are honestly two of the most important factors.
As with most things in life, 80% of the reward comes from 20% of the effort. The 20% your looking for is good macronutrient ratios (protein/carbs/fat) and total calories in < calories out :).

GymRatz Disclaimer: Above is IMO/IME!

3 larger meals? 4-5 smaller meals will be more beneficial for someone aiming to lose weight due to an even spread of food coming into our system. Maintains co-transport giving us a slow release of glucose throughout the day
What does maintenance of co-transport and a slow, steady release of glucose have to do with fat loss

Just a quick question guys about what will work best for me.

I haven't eaten breakfast for years and years as I don't have time / want to make time for it, my question is would it be beneficial to drink a meal replacement shake for breakfast as opposed to not having anything at all?

You trying to lose weight or bulk?

I'm just losing weight atm but I'm lifting weights as well as doing cardio to aid this.

My question is simply for breakfast should I have either nothing or a meal replacement shake.

I don't have time / want to make time for a breakfast.

I'm comfortably and consistently losing weight at the moment so don't need / want any other nutrition/diet advice.

I'll answer my own question; it's irrelevant.

More frequent, smaller meals will not help.

If you're not hungry in the morning and can last till lunch without eating then there's no need to eat breakfast if you don't want to, you won't gain anything by having a meal replacement shake.

Can't really be bothered to explain as your adament you know your right. Smaller portions as Ive said but more frequent meals will be better

All depends on the person.
Some people like having the smaller meals and being able to have that sort of grazing feeling throughout the day, whereas some people like myself would much rather have less frequent bigger intakes of food. I find this helps keep me feeling much more satisfied especially when I'm already taking in a reduced amount of food throughout the day anyway.
I'm sure there is research to back up both ways, but at the end of the day if you can't stick with it then it won't be an effective fat loss plan.

All I'm saying is that more frequent meals aren't better. Some people like eating more often, but it does nothing in terms of boosting metabolism.

I only answered my own question because you seemed to ignore it, I'm perfectly open to being proven wrong.

Noting wrong with a shake in the morning for your breakfast, I have been steadly losing fat and burning muscle while taking one plus it keeps my hunger at bay till lunch :)

I personally eat 5 portions of food a day. I usually have about 3 hours in between each portion. The reason I started doing this, was because I thought it sped up my metabolism.

Even if it doesn't, I'm losing weight at a steady pace anyway and I feel more energised throughout the day by eating like this.

Just a quick question, I'm wanting to go from 13 stone to about 11 & a half. I'm 5'11. It doesnt sound a lot to lose, I just have a bit of a belly and some slight moobs. Should I just power through with cardio or lift weights as well? So far cardio has been the only form of work I do.

Healthy diet lift 4 times a week full body cardio for 5 minutes before lifting, although cardio isn't needed

Well I've just been the gym & did the following:

Overhead press 6x10
Leg press 6x10
Seated leg curl 6x10
Leg extension 6x10
fly/rear delt 6x10

I then did a 2000m row. It all took me around 45mins & I definetly felt it.

Does the above seem ok?
