 I'm going to cry now.

Why are Uniteds basic skills so poor in general compared to very average sides. I know this is pre-season but our passing and control of the ball is god awful. Welbeck epitomises this. Misses good passes because he doesn't have the ball under control when dribbling or running with it. Very frustrating to watch when you see how easy it is for players like Kagawa.

Because you have too many players brought up in the English league who never learned to control a football ;)

It's the same internationally. Sides like Croatia, who didn't even have a nation 20 years ago, are so much better than us technically it's embarrassing.

Because we have focused on hoof ball to two expensive strikers for too long. We cut out the middle man and go long eventually someone like huth will make a bad header and our forwards pick up the pieces and then we think we are sucessful and all superior despite being outplayed by teams like black pool for 45 minutes etc.

I find this throughout sport in the UK. In every sport we neglect the basics once someone starts playing in games. I have played hockey for about 18 years now and its the biggest issue. You have people that can dribble with the ball a bit but their first touch, hitting and passing is really poor. What do they focus on in training? Dribbling and exercises that already require good basic skills. Then they wonder why they are rubbish at everything.

Just watching this game the number of times a United players first touch was poor or they are lunging at the ball with no guess where it will end up.

I tend to agree. Look at Chelsea and they have bought players for the future and players that can keep the ball on the ground and play dynamic football from front to back. We have needed a world class midfielder for years and Fergie just kept compensating with star strikers. When you see Bayern play it just makes us look like a bunch of idiots. Their control, movement and basic skills just kill us.

This is why scholes looked a king among men in England. He could control and pass a football x without anderson we lack this as Carrick struggles with both and Jones can't do either.

Lingard has looked great, we need to expose him and Januzajjejaja to more football this season.

Im pretty sure that we will be seeing lots of Jones in midfield and Giggs / Welbeck this season.
