2013/14 Pre-season Friendly Thread

Utd having a rather tough time over in the Far east on their tour so far, only won 1 game. Mind you i dont put much emphasis on these pre-season tours but this would never happen with Fergie in charge:p....looks like they managed a 2-2 draw against Osaka just now.

Meanwhile Arsenal have won all their games and by some margin too although at the moment iirc we are drawing with Urawa at 1-1.

Looked like it. Those 3 have looked good so far. I don't know quite how good you have to look to get ahead of Welbeck though.

We're always **** in pre season :)

We scraped through last years pre season also.

Thought Ando did well when he came on, played a few nice passes, especially the one in for Lingard and made a run and pass across the box to assist for Zaha.

Apparently Cleverley came on in that game too...

I supported Cleverley last season but he has fallen off a cliff performance wise and I fear he never performed that well unless we were overrunning opposition. Anderson just needs to be sold. We stick him on towards the end of a game against tired opposition and he still doesn't light up the pitch. Whenever he plays against good teams he is found out far too easily. He needs way too much space and tries too many killer balls when a much better pass would allow the attack to continue at pace.

He set up the equaliser (and set up a good chance for Lingard before that), seems pretty good to me? He did more in his short appearance than Young, Giggs and Jones had.

Young is not up to scratch. One trick pony, can't cross or beat a man it seems these days and still loves to take a dive.

Giggs should have retired years ago now. Well done buddy, you are still going at 40 but we would be much better off if he had been replaced by a good player a few years ago. Apparently above reproach and criticism because he is a club legend. Does one good thing a game and the fact that he ruined half a dozen attacks and gave the ball away a lot is ignored.

Jones is a defender, not a midfielder. End of.

If we are seriously using those three as an argument for Andersons quality then we have big issues. Like I said, Anderson is fine against tired or poor opposition. Time and time again we have seen him under-perform against anyone half decent. He might make the odd great pass but he will make 5 **** ones for every good one.

We have some good young players coming through and Zaha looks handy so far. Its not all doom and gloom but we haven't signed anyone and we are flogging a dead horse with half the players on tour.

Welbeck needs to go on loan or be sold. Cleverley the same. Buttner is never going to be up to scratch. I would rather play Evra at the moment and he need replacing urgently. Giggs should be retired. This should be the time we use to assess players but also prepare for the season. Start thinking about first XI's and how we are going to play as a team. Not how we are going to get to see how poor half the players in the team are when played with equally poor players. Who does that benefit.

Well they were the ones that played, if I'd said he played better than Carrick it wouldn't have made much sense :p

In the end Anderson is probably our second best central midfielder at the moment (with Kagawa being used further up the pitch) so until we sign someone we have to use what we've got. It was like people saying sell Nani when our only other options are Valencia and Young!

This is our problem though isn't it. We look at our players and compare them to the options and go "yeah he is the best option". That shouldn't be the case for a team like United. We shouldn't be in a situation where Anderson is arguably one of our best midfield options.

I genuinely felt guilty that we had bought Kagawa last year. Watching him stumble about last year looking for players to pass to and finding nothing half the time. I bet he wishes he had stayed put. CL final with BD or benched / injured most of the season at United playing with people who struggle to string half a dozen passes together once they get past the half way line.

Ahh the anderson haters are turning now

but seriousky why buy quality midfielders when you can just buy another 30 million striker and platly your uber expensive defensive prospects in midfield?
