Yeah for portrait use it's perfect even on a heavier lens but maybe not so when mounted on a tripod depending on lens weight I guess. Hardcore lenses of course :p

Lenses that are significantly heavy enough will have their own tripod collar anyway so it's not an issue really.

Yup that's true and you can buy collars for other lenses if needed.

My next event shoot isn't until mid Sept so until then it's a few weeks of re-learning where the metering and auto white balance falls over on the 5D, I've made some progress in this already where I've found the white balance can get confused when in a room with 2 florescent light sources (tube lamp and energy saving bulb) because these flicker very fast the white balance can appear yellowy in rare situations. Not a problem for RAW shooting but something to keep an eye on I guess.

I'm loving hand held shooting up to ISO 3200 hand held, so much convenience not having to pop on a flashgun!

In a 60 watt (uplit) room at night I sampled these shots, only fringe correction added (50 1.4 lens used):

DOF control is a new learning curve as well on full frame :p

That is an epic price!

Oh yes it is, including delivery and any customs costs.

But it is a direct bank Transfer to *******, which some people may not like for security and the fact it isn't a CC to pay off slowly!

Ah from Pana, I didn't choose them in the end because of warranty but will buys the 85 1.4 from there though next week.

It's a fair point and understanable for most.

I've just had enough with all this warranty this, insurance that malarky (car, phone, house, holiday, cameras etc etc). Save money instead, pay for the repairs and be careful with your kit (if an amateur).

The Pana deal saves about £270 vs the Digi Rev deal which was good enough for me. If something goes wrong in a few years a warranty won't be much use anyway and sending it the Canon repair centre won't cost too much anyway.

Hmm I'm not sure if my pixel grip had battery drain or not actually, both batts are now empty but they lost 15% in about 2 hours and all I was doing was shooting pics with the 50mm.

I'll use the camera with the batts fully charged tomorrow and see how much it drops again just in case it's the batteries simply not having their first charge cycle yet.

I've also started using a custom picture style as the below settings retain more highlight detail while giving a more cinematic image and this is equally good for video recording. The standard more is more contrasty and OEs highlight detail.

Also I love the ski hatch on my Tamrac, instant ejection for quick pics :-D

@ -Ad- - I take it the £2535 must include the replacement warranty as it was slightly cheaper when I got mine from ******* a few weeks back. They seem to be doing the cheapest deal at the minute and excellent service as well.

Been playing with friend's d800 today and we've been comparing real world use features and have realised a few things.

D800 has a noticeably smaller viewfinder, less pretty LCD, the body doesn't feel as robust and we both agreed the perceived feel and weight of the 5D was better, it looks and feels more complex and professional.

The noise control is obviously better on the 5D as well and the menu ui looks dated on the Nikon as well.

Both are brilliant though but I'm glad I stuck with this. It really down to the system you're happy with.
