8 Packs 4ghz 32m Challenge win full Haswell 4770K Bundle.

Now I wish I got that damn samsung green RAM!
Although i quite honestly dont know what most of these numbers mean...

Yeah, get some Samsung Green. Great fun :) IvyBridge generally has a better IMC than SB-E so if you get some alright Samsung Greens at least then 2400MHz shouldn't be too much of a problem.

the Samsung green isn't very good at 4ghz cpu clock speed, used it both on z77 and z68,it runs better with a higher cpu oc

the Kingston however seems to be well suited

what model Kingston is that monstermoshi??

Mine was less than £50 :D

yeah ive seen those,is it the ones with the black heatspreaders? do they run well?

It is very odd

My ram can do 2500mhz 9-11-11-25 1T 96 and I am not getting close to the normal SB setups. I have just tried running it @1600mhz 8-8-8-20-1T 88 and that did not make much difference either.

Maybe it is a bit like with graphics cards, at low CPU speeds they get bottlenecked.

Can you give it a bash with memory in tri channel? Wondering if dropping a channel, taking strain off of the controller will give room for better timings/speed. If it's beneficial or not I don't know.

Mine is just the cheap stuff. I have two sets of these, one i brought for around £30 and the other when on offer end of last year for something ridiculous like £22

It's a competition not a charity give away.

True and I appreciate ocuk for running competitions but this one seems a little ill thought out.

You can win a Haswell upgrade kit.

But in order to win one, you must have a Haswell system in the first place?

The anology would be BMW running a competition to win a brand new model 3 series but it was only open to people who had already bought a brand new 3 series in the last week. Do you see my point?

It's a tad limited on who can enter (by that I mean worth enetering, I'm not even going to put up my 9m time)

It's a bit of fun more than anything! I never had a reason to look into overclocking my memory so I'm giving it a go
I know I'm not going to win judging by some of the other entries but its a reason for me to learn how to overclock better

I think you have the fastest time so far tbh

Nice; may well give it a go :D

Since 8 pack as the final say on who wins, he may go for someone whos tweaked the hell out of a older platform.

Except that the rules state the prize will go to the fastest time so highly unlikely.

I do agree that there perhaps should have been lesser prizes for different categories of cpu encouraging everybody to try their hand at overlocking and tweaking which is an interesting hobby and well worth trying to eek out the very best from your kit. I can remember when I finally got superpi stable on my q9650 at 4.965Ghz on water and I was chuffed to bits after 3 weeks non stop tweaking.

Or perhaps 8-pack could have picked which member from any category he felt deserved the prize on the basis they managed to tweak the very best out of their system?

I would have thought a lot more people would be able to achieve a 4GHZ clock..

Even with oldish kit, its not that hard.

Surprised indeed!

A 4GHz clock may not be hard (depending on hardware, but being in with a shot is what's probably stopping so many from entering. A FX-8350 defaults to 4GHz, but unless something has changed the AMD chips wont get close to a Haswell setup.

Good luck to the Haswell owners though.

Maybe for the next competition 8 Pack could give away a Titan to whoever gets the best Heaven score :)
Bet Kaap would be up for that :D

I have some Samsung Green.
Not that impressed with it really.

2 of my sticks will do 2133 9,10,10 1T, the other 2 wont.
Tested them individually to find the best pair.

It is a mixed bag it seems.
Cheap and may OC well but there is no guarantee it wiill.

Agree 2400Mhz RAM is not cheap, especially the good CL9 stuff.

its not the memory so much, its how well your motherboard supports it,untill a few months ago I couldn't even boot above 1866mhz with it,then gigabyte pulled there socks up a bit and improved the beta bios for Samsung green, now I can do 2300mhz at a push

those kingstons seem to slap them in the face though

I have seen someone do that before (not by choice, they had a damaged mobo/slot) it makes results much worse.

Exactly.;) I look forward to other future ocuk competitions such as

1. a 512Mb ssd drive to the person with the fastest windows boot time
2. A dell 20" monitor to the forum member with the biggest monitor (pics with tape measure required)
3. Ek EVO waterblocks for liquid nitorgen to the forum member with the coldest cpu (screenshot required)

And other fun to enter competitions coming soon............

I'm half tempted to buy a full Haswell kit with the best memory and enter and then return under DSR...............

There is quite a difference between the Samsung Green and CL9 2400mhz ram.

Even if you underclock the 2400mhz CL9s down to 2133mhz or lower it still outperforms the Samsung Greens. There seems to be a lot more going on than just raw MHz and timings.

Shouldnt be. However from memory there are about 9 timings on memory or maybe more. And sopme have to match others in multiples. I am rusty but used to use a program to set the individual timings for all timings of the memory not just the basic 4 in bios. It can make a difference to your results.

Perhaps the cl9 2400 ram has much tiughter timings all the way through and dont drop even when set to lesser speeds?
