8 Packs 4ghz 32m Challenge win full Haswell 4770K Bundle.

Odd  that doesn't really make much sense. Second and Third timings getting some rubbish when on Auto maybe?

even with some 2nd/3rd timings tuned

im thinking poor bios support atm, this is only at 4ghz cpu, above that its much much faster

im gonna dig out my old skool x58 ocz reaper memory, see what that scores

From my old days, bios plays a very important part. You need the best bios from your mobo for the best results. I used to google it to find which worked best. The latest is not always the best.

Which is why you might be seeing the differences especially if both of you are on diffferent mobo as they can be a huge difference in benchmark results between manufacturers as I have learnt in the past.

worse score with ocz reaper kit,8minutes 10 sec

might buy some Kingston just for the hell of it

I have also know bioses to ignore what you set for memory timings and go to auto. You should check once you have booted up and see what they all actually are it.

I used to use memset to tweak my i7 and q9650. Not sure if its around or supports the latest mobo/cpu combo

Shouldnt be. However from memory there are about 9 timings on memory or maybe more. And sopme have to match others in multiples. I am rusty but used to use a program to set the individual timings for all timings of the memory not just the basic 4 in bios. It can make a difference to your results.

Perhaps the cl9 2400 ram has much tiughter timings all the way through and dont drop even when set to lesser speeds?

I did an exercise a while a go running the Physics test in 3dmark11 with different speeds and timings on these

I found even when I dropped the speed to 1600mhz and the timings to 8-8-8-20 I was still out scoring people running proper 2133mhz memory at its rated speed. My memory does use tuned 2nd 3rds but for 2400mhz not 1600mhz.

Unfortunately the same memory is not much use here in this competition lol.

You can't win them all.:D

I'm waiting for the leaderboard to be up and running, easily see who's on X79 then. Which times i need to try and beat :D

@Kaap, what's your best time? The only one i've seen so far is with you running really really low ram.

That's true. I used to tweak my memory for different benchmarks for HWbot in the old days as some responded better to slower memory speed but titghter timings etc to get a faster time/score

Well thats me out. I tried as few test runs & got just over 8 minutes with 2133 10-10 10-27.

Thought I'd go for 2400. Wouldn't boot at all. A clear CMOS & at default bios settings I still had 3 hangs & 5 BSODs at the welcome screen.

I finally got into Windows but it wasn't an enjoyable experience.

Have fun guys!

I have just compared two of my rigs, they both use the RIVE but with different bios.

The first setup

Bios 1101 (one of the best for overclocking, I think 8 Pack still uses it)
RIVE mobo
Corsair platinums 2400mhz 9-11-11-25 1T 96
CPU 3960X @4.0ghz

The second setup

Bios 3301
RIVE mobo
Corsair platinums 2400mhz 9-11-11-25 1T 96
CPU 3930k @4.0ghz

There is not a lot in it

Having said that though, I think you are right about having a good bios but for me there is not a lot between mine.

If i were to win i would give away the prize. I've got next to no chance in winning though, probably be able to get down to about 8m15s which is already 19s? short of best. Unless i shoot over to my mates with IB, slap in some sammy greens and have a play :D

Trust me when competing 1.4 secs is a lot! It can be the difference between coming first and 2nd or over 20 places if lower down the results. And that is from using the "best" bios and not changing anything else.

+1

In the graphics section we fight for a single point on some of the benches.:D
