no free shipping tho:(

Gained another 14 seconds. I wonder if running XP and dropping to a single module of the kingston might get me under 16m. (if i can tighten the timings any further)

Wow... I knew G.Skill were bringing out 3Ghz memory, and I knew it would be expensive, but $2k for 8Gb?!?! Madness! That's ten times the price that 2800Mhz sets are selling for in the US.

Talk about appealing to a niche market!

I have to ask is there a limit on how much ram you can have? I realise I'm not allowed to participate being an employee not that my ivy rig with 1600mhz ram will keep up with some of these times.

But surely someone running 4gb in dual channel will achieve a better time than someone running 16 gb.

Please forgive me if i've mis understood how super pi runs.

smaller usually makes things more stable/clockable - the IMC is not having to do as much or supply as much juice - this is just my new PC so I'm not going to change the config much beyond what I want to run it as once It goes "live" - so 4 x 8GB at 2400MHz is what I have.

... Though most of the fast RAM sold these days comes in 4Gb (or 8Gb) modules. Seems quite rare to see 2Gb modules of the good stuff. So competing with 4Gb could have its downsides.

Yes i understand but what I am saying is that If someone runs 2 X 4gb samsung at reasonable mhz they will surely get a better result than someone running 2 X 8gb at a higher mhz.

Yes mhz may have an impact but if you look at the temp leader board it suggests that mhz isn't everything.

I suppose I can just set up a system to test this out for myself :)

Just had a look into that 2500k with video.

Run test at 5Ghz for example.

Achieve 7minutes dead (LOL)

Take screen shot.

Set as display background.

Reboot PC with 4Ghz

Make film.

Get called out.

tut tut.

Hmm,

2 seconds to remove to be the leader of the 1156 pack.

Question is, can my 1600MHz ram clock to 2200 :O

Dam sure it won't at the last lot of timings....

:D
I'll beat you later

If anyone wants to know where you stand, or if you're competing against similar CPUs, i've updated the leaderboard to now show memory and timings (couple missing!)

Hmm,

2 seconds to remove to be the leader of the 1156 pack, seems a bit iffy since I've got 1.6GHz ram vs 2GHz ram even if I can put whacky timing on mine.

Sorry that list is a bit out of date :p

There have been a few more runs since then. As far I'm aware, I have the current fastest x58 time (9:03.910) :p

Kaapstad is not far behind either, with 9mins 7s.

Keep pushing though! Lots of 1st-gen i7s and i5s don't allow high memory clocks anyway, so tighten up your timings and see what you can get :)

Nope, you're on a 1366 socket not 1156 so I'm still looking at 2s to beat the best on my socket :P

Tighter than 6?
