8 Packs 4ghz 32m Challenge win full Haswell 4770K Bundle.

I was having issues getting the trfc down, so thought I would stick with it higher and try some of the other timings.

Had major issues with my bios + backup-bios. backup bios was on F8 and was having settings disappear and settings not appearing to stick right. Once I got the main bios onto F9 and the same for the backup bios, things went a lot smoother.

it hard,i posted how to recover a borked bios a few pages back, tbh I doubt I can go any faster,im also using win8,plus I don't feel like messing about installing xp

all I can say is thank god for ssd's,ive had to reboot a million times

I can get 7m55s on a Haswell 4770k with 32GiB of Geil Evo Veloce DDR3-2400 XMP/C11-12-12-1T running a clean install of Win8pro + patches and no tuning at all - this with the Asus Z78-DELUXE mobo (and its raw BIOS) under a corsair H100i.

Though as others have said, it doesn't seem fair. I'll see how far I can get tonight but probably won't submit an official entry.

That's about as quick as my ram will go, will leave it at that for now.

I'm not going to be able to get close to 7m 55s so I take my hat off to you pcz :-)

Yes you can
Install xp
Run through the tweaks posted by Greebo
I found this to make the most difference
Tip 6 Go to system properties, click on the Advanved Tab then advanced tab again. Set Processor scheduling to Background services. Set memory usage to System cache.

I used a spare SSD for XP.
60Gb plenty big enough for XP.
TIP: set to IDE not AHCI or XP wont install.

Yes plenty of rebooting
BIOS tweaking, booting of USB key to run Memtest.
Back to BIOS, more Memtest then OS boot to run SP.

If I can get a hold of windows xp (should have an oem dell disc around somewhere) then I will have a crack at :)

Would it be better to install xp as a partition on my current ssd or just stick it on a separate hdd?

Spare disc if you have one.
Then you can keep it as a benching drive.
+ you can disconnect your main OS drive, no risk of file corrupotion.

Any of you fellas on x79 ever tried to utilise the 1.67 strap? Thinking if I can get post on something like 93x1.67 it should on the 16.00 memory divider, give me another 50+mhz on the memory clocks.

I think you should.. if you win.. you can make your own competition that more people can participate :)

OR

you can lend me your pc and I can post the result as mine :D

No, you should enter. I'll be building a Haswell system this weekend (though my fast RAM won't be here for a couple of weeks), and I don't want to be the only 'serious' Haswell entry.

If 8 pack wants to adjust the rules to exclude Haswell entries from winning then I wouldn't object, but unless that happens this thing is inevitably going to be won by a Haswell.

Not sure I will be able to match your tuned score though - I'll be using a gigabye UD4H. As I understand it the Asus boards are a better bet for memory fine tuning? I'll be using 8Gb though so maybe it will even out.

yea lol I got 8.09 with my ram at stock 1600mhz with stock timings and still beat a lot of people highly over clocking their ram using older gen cpu's

You won't be the only haswell entry properly ocing come the end of this competition anyway so you might has well get started.

or splash a little cash on a cheap z87board and 4670 cpu:D;) sell it on later

I too would like to see some serious haswell entries, just to see how quick they can go vs my setup. I would love to see someone use samsung green to just compare the imc and ipc improvement alone. Forget the fair/unfair aspect of it, lets just have some fun.

Just seems a bit daft that to win a Haswell setup you need to buy one....

I thought that first of all but then I realised it was fun to tweak and get more out of my setup and to compete with others on the platform as me.

There should be more things like this, no prizes perhaps but just for fun.

Think I've used my desktop pc more this week than I have in the previous month or 2 trying to shave seconds off my best superpi time at 4.0Ghz.

My setup is now running at settings I didnt realise possible :)

It does not boot on any of mine.

.

Not sure there is much room for tweaking the RAM with this geil (or that I have the required patience/skill) - there will be more with the other things which are possible but I'll see.

I don't think I even disabled turbo/speedstep on that run as I saw the clocks diving around all over the shop - unless its a bug in the BIOS. I was also copying 68,000 files from my NAS and surfing the web too.

Its still on its box on the dining table but I'll put it into the C800D over the weekend and add the HD7970's - running on IGP presently which won't help either - though the impact would be small I would hope.

Well I have no experience tweaking memory either... my previous overclocking consisted entirely of seeing how high I could get the CPU frequency to be stable without cooking the CPU. Never touched any memory timings.

I've learned a lot from this thread already.
