8 Packs 4ghz 32m Challenge win full Haswell 4770K Bundle.

Nope, you're on a 1366 socket not 1156 so I'm still looking at 2s to beat the best on my socket :P

Tighter than 6?

Ah - apologies, you're absolutely right :o Time and whisky seem to remove knowledge with remarkable efficiency :p

And no... unlikely you'll get tighter than 6! You could try tuning the secondary and tertiary parameters though.

I did 7 55 on XP last night but haven't posted anything up yet.
Will do later.
Need to get CPUz 32bit and the OC wallpaer on the XP drive.

... Though most of the fast RAM sold these days comes in 4Gb (or 8Gb) modules. Seems quite rare to see 2Gb modules of the good stuff. So competing with 4Gb could have its downsides.

Both my ripjaws and Kingston high perf kits are 2gb modules :)

I've been really surprised at how well the ripjaws tune and clock, not bad for a £70 kit :)

If I can get timings down to 9-11-11 on my brute force settings I might yet catch kaap :D

Think I've peaked. I can't get the ram speed or NB up any higher and the timings are as low as i can run on the kingston. (Can't get CL or tRCD to post at 8 for love nor money) I ran at 9-9-8-20 1T and it made no difference to the result. Do you guys reckon my older corsair dominator 2GB 1.8V modules will be able to outperform the kingstons?

Is anyone with an X6 thuban going to at least try?

@kap have you ever tried your x79 memory in tri channel config on your x58/980x system? I bet that would do well

This is probably a pretty dumb question but...

Why does Windows only report ~4Gb of memory? CPU-z is reporting 6Gb... The OS is Win 7 64, so no 32bit address space issues.

Is this due to my GPUs (2x GTX 780s) reserving physical memory?

edit: guess so - Windows system reports 6.0Gb memory (4.0Gb usable). Nevermind! I guess this is going to make things fun when I switch to only 4Gb in the Haswell system (until the new memory arrives).

does your cpu or motherboard have onboard graphics enabled ? if so it's likely reserving system ram , disable it or check in the bios if you can set how much memory it uses.
I know on haswell you can set the memory usage of the onboard gpu to whatever you like.

Dedicated graphics card should not be reserving system memory

Check your in correct ram slots try with one stick only in second ram slot from CPU socket to front of case, repeat test with the other stick,it'll boot into windows if its working

It should say 8gb memory,no usable at all, that's with using onboard graphics or not

Can be down to too tight a CPU cooler or bent CPU socket pins

That's not correct

Task manager shows my total memory as
8114mb
78mb is hardware reserved
resource monitor shows 8192mb like it should

I'm 99% certain it's onboard graphics either from a cpu or motherboard reserving his missing memory

Mine must me missing because i have an unknown VGA in device manager and 2 unknown audio devices I must need to disable in the bios

I meant in system properties in windows not task manager it will say amount of memory 8gb

there shouldn't be any usable message, also look in the bios to see amount of ram

if theres an issue it will say ( x amount of ram usable) in above screenshot

I did a long time ago, the IMC on the 980 is really good. It managed to boot into windows at 2374mhz 9-11-11-25 1T 96 . I used it to run the physics test on 3dmark11 @2300mhz plus.

I will give it a go for this in 4 days time when I am off work again.

I'm convinced someone can get close to 7:30 with haswell if not under

Oh wait we already know 8pack did 7:22

It will say 6gb for him like CPU-z does.
He's running triple channel ram so he only has 6gb.

It's not going to be a hardware failure for him just an onboard gpu set in the bios to use that much ram

Thanks for the advice guys...

I should clarify, this is still my old x58 setup. The comment about the Haswell was just because I'm going to be using only 4Gb for a while (and if, as I thought then, the GPUs were snaffling 2Gb then it wouldn't leave me with much!). Misleading in hindsight.

The RAM is in the correct triple-channel slots, and I haven't touched it or the CPU for a LONG time, so it's unlikely to be that. I'll check the onboard graphics now though - I did reset BIOS during my overclocking runs last night so it could now be enabled.

... the other possibility(?) is that I've fried one of my RAM sticks during the SuperPi runs last night :p It *would* explain why I suddenly lost about 6 or 7s from my scores at identical settings (losing the triple channel). Is it possible for a RAM failure to manifest in this way - i.e. showing as present but unavailable? In the past, when a RAM stick has failed on me, it's always led to a machine that won't POST.

X58 won't have onboard graphics, test your ram the way I said, probably have a faulty module or slot

Well done pcz, don't think I can get close to that

Look in the BIOS as well.
It might say 4GB useable, actually system info should also say that.

Your RAM may be OK it is not unusual for X58 to drop a channel.
Over tightened heatsink ?
Reseat RAM and keep fingers crossed.

Ahh... Found the answer.

The good news is there's no hardware failure. All memory sticks checked out just fine, testing one-by-one. Booted back up and there was still only 4Gb showing as available.

It seems that it was because I was running Nvidia surround (triple-screen desktop). I had no idea that this sequestered extra system memory  Only been able to use it recently - after getting my new GPUs. Switched back to dual-screen "regular" desktop, and it's all back again.

Thanks again for the help though guys :)

edit: Now re-enabled Nvidia surround and 6Gb is showing  I officially have no idea. For now I'm going to pretend that everything is juuust fine...
