8 Packs 4ghz 32m Challenge win full Haswell 4770K Bundle.

Hello Haswell :D

2cnilgz.jpg

Still waiting for the SSD, but then the fun begins.

Ive got linux installed on one of my drives might fire up the linux version to see if that improves things

Got xp32 working with the 3770K.
Down to 7m 55s so far.

Cant seem to go lower even with the RAM at 2600+

Seems those 7m 40 something runs have RAM with extremely low CAS.
LN2 cooled PSC most likely.

No cpuz though...

I investigated this earlier in the week working on the theory an uber lightweight distro would be pretty quick.

That's about as quick as my ram will go, will leave it at that for now.

I'm not going to be able to get close to 7m 55s so I take my hat off to you pcz :-)

finally got under 8mins, yes xp helped. I'm am so going back to playing some games now :D

Congratulations!! what helped more? timings or speed?

What time do you get with same configuration in Windows 7/8?

Awesome time 1Deep!

Highly doubt I will get near your time without some major help, the final tweaks I was doing was only shaving about 0.25s a go and thats between failed boot attempts.

I have my bios screens if anyone wants to take a gander, giga UP4 + Samsung Green.

Please :) - I played with my timing on my Samsung Green last night and couldn't get lower than 8min 20s no matter what I tried.... this was with a 101 BCLCK (4040MHz CPU)

One thing I am confused about is memory timings as everything I read says that tRAS (+-1) = tCL + tRCD + tRP, but I can see from a lot of the entries that tRAS is much lower than that formula....

http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/ddr3-memory-timings-explained

The tRAS formula is generally recommended, however for some RAM (Samsung Green in particular) you can get away with much tighter than that easily and stable too.

plenty Samsung green timings in here to copy

Thanks Guys :)

At 2133MHz I can't get my 1st timings lower than 9-10-11 @ 1T - I've tried increasing vRAM to 1.7 and vccIO to 1.25 but didn't help. Wondering if I need to play with the PLL voltage?!?!

Currently get around 8mins 20s with 9-10-11-24-120 (vccIO @ 1.07, vRAM @ 1.4830) 2nd and 3rd timings are on Auto but pretty low (think most 3rd timings are set to 3 by Auto)

My TeamGroup memory should arrive this afternoon so something else to try too :)

Getting the BCLK up to 103.5 at a 39x multiplier seems to be the first step. If I got beyond that the system becomes unstable.

Windows 8 seemed to be adding ~1.5s, theres just too much going on in the background.

Managed to get ram up to 2200, then its finding the timings that you can reduce. I am certainly a noob when it comes to this stuff and the lack of explainations of what each setting doesn't help. Anyway use the below at your own risk, I am under water so cpu temps were never an issue.

you can try trfc at 88 without any instability, maybe lower if you push things

for gigabyte z77 owners use latest beta bios as it contains read/write slew rate for memory usually setting #2 on each is the best

Thanks Sir SpankalotUK

I can get my BCLK upto 104 but only with CPU or Memory Overclock not both :)

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18517687

Can manage 103 so will try increasing upto 103.50, CPU temps not a problem on mine either as my 2500k runs pretty cool under the megahalems (using MX-4)

wine + anything always works for me but I am not sure promoting drinking while trying to overclock is a good idea ;)

It works for me

I was leak testing a build on Xmas eve and one of the fittings leaked all over the mobo in/out panel. As it was Xmas I left the build for a few days. After 5 days of very heavy alcohol consumption I was very wet but my mobo was very dry. It booted up and worked first time.:D

I was having issues getting the trfc down, so thought I would stick with it higher and try some of the other timings.

Had major issues with my bios + backup-bios. backup bios was on F8 and was having settings disappear and settings not appearing to stick right. Once I got the main bios onto F9 and the same for the backup bios, things went a lot smoother.
