8800 320mb GTS Feb 12th.

All the pre-order prices I have seen point to it being £40 cheaper for the 320MB. I am going to stump up the extra for 640MB as I think 320MB might be a bit tight for 1680x1050.

depends on the res.

£40 cheaper between the prices on the other retailers websites? or between cheapest 640mb you'v seen and the 320mb off another site?

It seems the two partners Intel and nVidia are definately ahead of the game. They must be really happy with their progress considering so many have moved to Core 2 Duo and G80, and what they have mapped out for the future. If AMD/ATI even want to try and rise to the challenge they are going to have to really impress!

I think the 8800 320mb is awesome! A lot of gamers do not need the absolute top end but like a good card for the price and I think £200 is the sweet spot. I know it will tempt a lot of my mates to upgrade ;) I guess these cards will have 30% less performance than a GTX but:

at half the price tag,
smaller,
run cooler,
reach same clocks as GTX
less power hungry:D

At the res my friends play @ max are 1280 1024 or 1440 900 this card looks perfect :)

But to be honest, the people unwilling to part with the big money are people who are probably happy sat with there 19" monitors, who cant get the high resolutions to make use of the top end cards really :D
ie. ME

I really do hope I was wrong about my estimate on these cards as £200 inc. VAT is the price I'm looking at for my "Vista system" (though Vista won't go on it until SP1). I think an ideal setup for me is an E6300 based system with 2 Gb Geil value RAM (I also game at 1280x1024). :)

£40 difference between the cheapest source for a 640mb and the cheapest pre-order price for a 320mb (not the same website).

The trouble is that the 640mb version is generally available with quite a big discount (e.g. the recent Gainward offer here at OcUK), whilst the new card will priced at RRP because it is a new card.

I think these cards may have the edge over some of even the 512mb ATi cards (1950Pro's etc) - whilst they have less ram, and performance may not be a huge difference, the key is the fact that the 8800 series have a huge increase in quality over the older generations - something many people seem to be ignoring.

Hi there

The 8800 GTS 320MB competes with the X1950 XTX and is cheaper. :) ;)
