ADSL Max Question?

Got this from plus.net via email after selecting to regrade to option 3 upto 8mbp premier £39.99
does that mean i'm being upgraded or not? as its saying its been rejected but then says about manually updating their systems
although on the plus.net ticket viewer it states 7th april for an upgrade afaik, just a shame they didnt reply saying - "yo its gettin upgraded on the 10th of april mmkay" instead of that ^^

Sounds like it's not being updated at the moment but they're going to put it through manually if possible, so expect a delay.

Does anyone else have speetouch and could compare and explain what "ATM" means please....

Are those numbers what the max i can get on my line is ? I still have 2meg line at the moment.

Thanks.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2272 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 47 db 12.5 db
Noise Margin 17 db 25 db

just wondered what i'de likey get?

Hi guys, i think i can do this but just want to check.

Basically we are leaving plusnet soon as they are taking the mick. Is it possible to wait for PN to regrade us onto ADSLMax and then request a MAC and the next ISP will automatically give us 8mb due to the direct switch?

Never transferred by MAC before as Tiscali wouldnt do it.

Thanks

SNR and Noise Margin can be 2 different things.

SNR is the signal to noise ratio.

Margin is the amount of SNR you require for the line to operate at it's given speed, i.e. you can be synced at 2mbit with a margin of 10dB, but what that actually means if you have 10dB 'available' before you'd run into problems.

Thanks for the info Olly, much appreciated :)

One more if you guys dont mind as its something ive wondered for a while, might be me being stupid but may be sensible. The line syncs at your fastest most stable rate, what if your on management at the time and cant download faster than say 15kbs during the 10 day period? Does plusnets throttling make any diffence to how your line will sync over the 10 day period?

Throttling at the ISP end doesn't affect your sync rate, nor will it affect your maximum stable rate.
As a point of note, folks regrading or migrating (as Olly's doing) will mostly jump the queue over the folks waiting for bulk upgrades.

Im with BT Yahoo at the moment and i have 1meg,i have checked on bt's site and it says im able to get just over 3meg on maxdsl, how can i find out if btyahoo are doing maxdsl???,cheers.

They are, you just have to sit back and wait for them to get round to upgrading you (could be a couple of months, could be a couple of weeks)

They are not going to upgrade people unless you request it. Go to faster.bt.com and register your interest, then they get back to you about the upgrade.

People are seeing their ADSL line connect to the exchange at the maximum rate the line will manage (this is the ADSL line sync rate), but the actual download speeds from sites like our own speed-tester and others are remaining very close to 2Mbps. This is because of something called the Data Rate, which is set inside the BT Wholesale network and controls the amount of data that each line can carry over the wholesale part of the network.
The Data Rate on a Max product is set initially to 2Mbps, and should change within around 75 minutes of being regraded and the ADSL modem connecting rise to reflect the increase in line sync rate. Currently this does not appear to be happening, the precise reason is unknown, but certainly service providers are aware of it (note: some support staff answering the telephones may not know, it will depend on the briefings given to them by their team leaders).

Before the "I got regraded and I'm still only getting 2Mbps" starts.

so once your regraded it starts off at the 2mbp data rate then re-syncs every 75 minutes to "up" it, testing the line till it gets a stable data rate throughout the 10 day test period?
