ADSL Max Question?

so once your regraded it starts off at the 2mbp data rate then re-syncs every 75 minutes to "up" it, testing the line till it gets a stable data rate throughout the 10 day test period?

You don't have to resync to change the data rate, and it isn't going to affect how stable your connection is...

I am also with BT-yahoo paying £26.99 a month.

if i register with http://www.faster.bt.com/ to enable my line to 8meg will i be paying more/less? Will my tariff change?

You will pay the same but will enter into another 12 month term, and it might not be 8mb. Last time I checked they didnt expect that many people to get all the way up to 8mb. Between 4-6 is more realistic.

In my Nildram CP it says "ordered with BT", just a waiting game from now then:o

If Nildram list the service as 6Mbps is that the MAX you get or can it be a possible 8Mbps depending on line quality? What I mean is could I still get 8Mbps download speeds at the right time from the right server?

Anyone on Virgin.net here? I got an email a few weeks ago saying that they would be checking if our line could support a faster speed and then emailing us to ask if we wanted to upgrade but nothing heard so far. Anyone got the second email?

Isn't the BT checker sufficient?

Then your line's capable, hmmm .. unless you're in a hurry I'd suggest migrating to someone who can offer you the service you require, though tbh a phone call would be much faster than waiting for an E-mail.

Yeah i have that now too. Yesterday it said....

Intersting. I have been running speed tests the last 2 days and I have a 2 meg line but have only been getting between 1mbps and 1.5mbps.
Its a bit of a mess, Communication with your customers and telling them exactly whats going on is not high on BT's list it seems.

Hi Tim,

I ordered online with Nildram back on Saturday morning and my CP still says ordered with BT but they have not come back with a proposed date?

Are you in the same situation?

Cheers

Same here, the estimated install date should be the date its activated.

In my BT Broadband account details there was a upgrade button which I pressed. Then went to the BT site and clicked "Upgrade" in Option 4.
Filled out all the details and it knew most of the details as already have a direct debit set up. I have to upgrade from my speedtouch to a router which they are suppling free. They are activating my line for "upto 7mb" and delivering the router on Tues the 11th of april. So we shall see what happens.

I hope that router was optional, you can buy 8Mbps capable modems for under a tenner now.

i thought all adsl kit was 8mbit capable? i remeber ordering my original router in 2001/2002 (i went on ADSL as soon as it went wires only and didn't require engineer install) and it supported 8mbit

Yes, I also ordered it at the weekend so I expect it might take a few working days to goto the next step. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Tim

I noticed that people on Zen already seem to have had their MAX ADSL lines activated already. Wonder how they managed to get regraded so fast.
