Afghanistan - 20 years on

Republican firebrand Ann Coulter praises Biden for leaving Afghanistan while mocking Trump for his weakness.

So the feeling is it would be impossible for US troops to hold the city min any meaningful way. There is no way for them to defend against ISIS insurgent attacks and they would be even more sitting ducks for such attacks than they were just protecting an airport.

Agree.

The taliban said they would stay out of the city and both airports if biden wanted them to.
But biden said NO. He could have rescued everyone with out any suicide bomber.
He needs to pay for his mistakes.

With the complete collapse of the ANA and Afghan government the Taliban were probably a blessing, there had to be some kind of order in Kabul.

No the US and allies would have been even more wide open to ISIS attacks, with no Taliban to concern them and a tiny fraction of the troops required to even think about securing a city. They would have free reign to attack US troops.

You should re-read my post.
Biden told the taliban to move in and NOT stay out of both airports.
And the taliban was going to stop other groups from going near.

Getting the people out would have been easier and faster.
But for some strange reason. Biden thought he had all the boxes ticked.
Glad he won't be voted in again.

So the Taliban stays outside the city. ISIS insurgents are inside the city. No Taliban to worry about so they can attack both US troops and civilians at will. Sorry why is this a great plan again?

Looks like Trump isn't the only one to upset gold star families. At least he hasn't insulted them out in public yet.

It would have been a slaughter.

It would have been a slaughter.

Its amazing how some people just don't think it through. Imagine thinking everyone who wants to hurt allied troops will just stay outside the city and wait for us to get all our people out and only then enter the city all because Biden asked the Taliban to remain outside. How exactly were the Taliban going to stop ISIS insurgents who were already in the city? Their hatred for Biden stops any rational thought.

Ouch! I can feel the burn from here. I rarely agree with that right wing loon but he did do what Trump had 4 years to get done.

Not a defence of Trump - Obama did similar - but the administrations before Biden acted largely in accordance with the situation on the ground (albeit I doubt Trump had much to do with that). Granted Biden wasn't handed a great situation and had time constraints to work with whatever way you look at it but his administration has acted with poor understanding or willingness to put the situation on the ground into the equation with their approach just wanting out and being able to wash their hands of the situation while likely thinking they could get their names up in lights for getting things done long enough before there was seismic changes within Afghanistan itself.

There is no time before the end of last year where it would have been sensible to enact the final complete removal of troops.

People are getting too focussed, maybe purposefully so to deflect from Biden, on the logistics of securing a whole city and not the fact that it exposes the way Biden has pushed ahead with this and the consequences of that.

You're not understanding my post. But again since you have a hard time reading. Again.

Yeah but deuse still believes the Big Lie. He can't accept old Donny lost fair and square. His reality would collapse if he was forced to confront that.

But on a side note.
At least I can vote. You can't.
And your still defending a guy who doesn't live in the UK and you never voted in.
I think it's called "obsession synonyms"

To be fair what happens with the US administration affects us all, as can be seen with recent events!

I don't however understand the Biden loving some have going on - at best he is acting like your average Tory politician despite some grand words and gestures.

No its called Speaker Corner/General Discussion on a forum so debating the topic of the thread is what happens  Considering at a guess 5% max of posters are actually US citizens it would be a bit dead in here without those of us that can't vote there.

And no a citation isn't required. If you think we don't all remember the utter lunacy you were posting in the run up to the election or all the threads you started in GD claiming the election was stolen that then got locked by the mods you are mistaken.

If Trump had had 4 years to flick a switch, then that might be valid criticism.

I think what we're seeing right now is how badly things have gone wrong when you try to do this with maximum haste. I.e., treating it like flicking a switch.

Not a Trump defender, but 4 years isn't exactly an eternity given the complexities of the situation. Phased withdrawal is still a withdrawal. And overnight withdrawal has proven to be a disaster.

e: Also it's amazing how child-like partisan politics can be. The US is a great example, with the UK doing a great job also of showing politics in the worst possible light. They are like bickering children most of the time.

I love the way you put in in quotation marks but are incapable of quoting yourself properly because either you are that dumb or because what you actually wrote doesn't fit what you are now trying to claim. Let me help you out.
