Afghanistan - 20 years on

And who picked the staff? That's right Biden.

Sometimes there is no substitute for the information from experts or those who specialise in or are otherwise close to a subject but anyone who has been around the top levels of government including previously vice president really should know better the situation on the ground than to just parrot information like that.

The policy would have worked, but would have taken another 30-40 years

After 20 years the Afghan Army and people did almost nothing to stand up to the same Taliban that was there before. What makes you think in 30-40 years the same thing wouldn't happen?

So we will be taking in 20k Afghan refugees over the next few years, 5k in the first year.

I was expecting more tbh, that actually seems quite a small number.

It does seem small; although I fully expect they'll find reasons not to bring that number over; its the same as other schemes where a headline figure was suggested; they never want to meet it

The US can't say for certain they will get everyone out, Ben Wallace the other day said some of our lot may get left behind...

Not everyone will get out during the evacuation op, that will end at some point, they will pack up and leave rapid and whoever is still there, good luck I guess.

Biden is a hero, white rage is the real problem.

The older generation are the ones lost and stuck in their ways, staying staying over there for another 30-40 years would have given the chance to change the mindset of the young generation, 30-40 years is what it would have taken but nobody would have had the stomach for such a long occupation

It does seem small but will probably be simular to other countries, i think Canada who completely dwarf us in size said 22K

Canada who have about half our population and GDP?

It's not really a land issue, otherwise we could just drop them all off in the Highlands.

thats not the point, there is a serious shortage of housing in the UK so its hardly easy for us to take in 250K+ people of whatever some would have us do

The US is only taking 30k and they have over 5X the population size, 40X the land mass and 6X our GDP. Not to mention they caused this mess with their botched withdrawal.
