Alien: Isolation...

Is it still a PITA to get sweetfx working with W8.1 Tony?

nope not at all. I go through RadeonPro for everything now, have the Baulatour2024 and Ceejay 1.51 version inbedded into RadeonPro, then just download the individual setting files, import them with radpro and voila. Only thing you have to remember from time to time, is some games require overlays turned off. So in that case, I just end MSI Afterburner and control fan speed through CCC.

Fancy giving us a simple screenshot of SweetFX on and off?

I've always been dubious of SweetFX since it's only an overlay filter... but if your screenshots appear to make a significant difference then I'll try it.

So I reinstall game from earlier issue and it's been fine and I just board a transit after that first alien belly stab death but now crashing saying Save Error - there has been an error while accessing the hard disk cache of the game. The game will return to the main menu.

Can't get past it. Was running fine again until then.

Mehhhh

Oh no, i saw something about this elsewhere and they recommend freeing up HDD space or transferring the folder to a spacious HDD.

You aren't alone and their appeared to be solutions.

Ok thanks. I tried radeon pro before with watch dogs and got it working but had to jump through so many hoops and then it meant that if I wanted to use sweetfx for another game, I would have to change to a different sweetfx directory, became a right faff in the end.

PS. finally got past that bit where I had to find the data cell... Only took me about 20 attempts :o

Going to hold of for a few days though as it looks like we could possibly get even further improvements in the graphics.

I can do sure, but just click on the comparison screenies on from the link I provided above, move the mouse over the individual ones to get a comparison of on and off. Here you go, here's one, very subtle and doesn't change the mood http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/screenshot/13385/full/ although with DOF you don't get to see the quality to much.

The other presets I find make the game to colourful and bright, like this one http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/2223/ just nasty

I did those tweaks to improve visuals, and it looks better(was great anyway). I didn't have the entry for LOD in the engine settings though. Also can't be bothered to do that downsampling atm.

I have got through the first part of the medical center. Very tense, and totally epic. Would be nice if the Alien didn't follow you around though, and could go anywhere. I think it would actually make it more tense.

Also annoying how the crafting menu is tbh. Very poorly designed.

GOTY so far for me(to be far though, been a poor year so far!)

Nex, have you done into Engine_Settings.XML and done the recommended changes for the LOD, Shadowmap Resolution and Planar Reflections? link here http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=324612199

Yup, done that :)

Although, I think the planar reflections is a bit too much/shiny, just looks like a layer of water all over the floor now imo. Still looks nice though!

Yeah, I wouldn't even think of Sweetfx for this game tbh. I can't imagine what it would add.

There are many games where it can be incredibly good(Fallout games, Deus Ex HR for example) but quite a few really modern games don't need it tbh. Last game I think I used it on at release was Arkham Origins, as it really improves the Arkham games.

Need some assistance

Humans have seen me and for some reason I ran inside a vent which is a deadend. Now I cant get out as they are camping the exit lol.

Does the AI just camp there forever or do they move out after certain amount of time?

I'm not sure if you can reduce the Planar Reflection effect in the config file. The guide says to add the values 6 and 9.

The default settings are 0 and 3 (off and on).

Maybe try the settings of 4 or 5, this may reduce the amount of reflection.

I just use it to get rid of that horrible grey misty layer, I hate that washed out look. And its great for injecting SMAA, brings more definition to the games IMO. I just cant stand these overbright, over saturated presets though..yuck yuck, thats why I like K-Putts must, they are subtle but enough to see a nice layer of improvement.

I set the ai.exe to always run in administrator and it's been fine since.

Why am I so scaredddddd from this game. I love it
